Marijuana Operation Found In Douglas County Home
DENVER -- Acting on a tip from West Virginia, the South Metro Drug Task Force raided a Douglas County home earlier this week and seized 407 marijuana plants, $310,000 in cash, dozens of guns and cultivation equipment worth more than $30,000.
Robert Page, 56, is charged with marijuana possession but he may face more charges, the Douglas County Sheriff's office said.
Page had been arrested by the Harrison County Sheriff's Office in West Virginia on Monday.
After investigators interviewed him, they called the Drug Enforcement Agency and said that they believe there was a possible marijuana growing operation in the 2000 block of South Hidden Valley Road in Sedalia.
Agents with the DEA and South Metro Drug Task Force carried out a search warrant and found a sophisticated indoor marijuana hydroponics operation.
Besides the cash and crop, agents also seized three vehicles, two recreation vehicles, a motorcycle and 21 firearms; three of which were assault weapons.
"The DEA considers this to be a significant investigation," said Jeffrey D. Sweetin, a DEA agent in charge of the Rocky Mountain Division. "We sometimes forget about the dangers of marijuana, but this case brings to mind the serious nature and the detrimental effects of marijuana on the citizens Colorado. It is especially noteworthy to recognize the substantial assets generated by this criminal organization."
"I think this seizure sends a very strong message to those that believe the rural areas of Douglas County would be a good place to grow drugs and participate in illegal activities," said Douglas County Sheriff David A. Weaver.
