rice instead of chemical desiccants
    #6568702 - 02/14/07 08:50 PM (17 years, 2 months ago)

Ive been curing some of my crop by fan drying for 24 hrs and then placing them in jars with a little rice in the bottom and burping them every day for 30 min and it seems to be working great, I got cracker die fruits with a nice jasmine rice scent and no chems .

Good idea. I put packets of rice in my seed box to keep it dry in there, and some rice in the salt shakers (it's humid around here) and I've heard of photographers in SE Asia using rice to save their equipment from moisture damage. I don't think the rice will work so well in summer, though, when humidity is higher. But the jasmine rice scent sounds great.

How long did it take to dry with rice? And what do you mean burping? Just open the lid for 30 min?

*This post is entirely fictional. I bought a box of Cracker Jacks and looked for the prize inside, which happened to be this strange tale. This is something unusual to find in junk food, so I decided to post it here.*
