Cobweb on Casing!!
    #6564856 - 02/13/07 10:04 PM (17 years, 2 months ago)

Is there anything I can do to save it? There's some healthy myc growth as well, but it appears to be being choked back by the cobweb.

3% peroxide melts cobweb mold on contact. Repeat every 12 hours until it doesn't come back. It usually takes three applications.

I immediately did that. I've sprayed it again once today (around 15hrs later). However, the fluffiness of the mold appears to be gone, but there's still a gray mat covering the majority of the casing. Is this salvageable?

You sprayed it with 3% peroxide from the drug store straight from the bottle and it's still there? If so, it might be healthy mycelium. 3% peroxide should make it melt and disappear on contact. Be sure to use it without diluting, and spray until it's dripping wet.

Ah...that would explain things. I thought you meant a 3% solution of H2O2. However, as of last night, I discovered there was a pleasant green mold UNDER the cobweb...does that make any sense at all? All the same, I'm scrapping the whole thing. (I'm fairly certain all of this contam is due to the cat jumping THROUGH the foil on top and into the casing...the foil was glinting in the light).

Green is bad, so toss it out. I do mean a 3% solution of peroxide. That's the strength it comes from the store in the US, so use it full strength. In other countries it comes in 10%, in which case, they would need to dilute it a bit over 3 to 1 to get the same 3%. Hydroponic stores sell it in 30%, in which case you'd dilute it 10 to 1 before using.
