Self-Control sucks.

How does one come across self-control? Is it inherited through some genetical process? Or is it just a result of bad experiences? Or just good parenting?
Because I need some.

It's not something you inherit... it is something you must learn to do on your own by the power of your will. And it can become one of the strongest things to beat stereotypes. It is so hard to get there because it requires patience and lots of exercise. But I think it's totally worth it.

It is probably at some level genetic. That is why for example they say that obesity is genetic--its not that obese people literally gain more weight by consuming the same amount of calories, its more that they have a harder time avoiding fatty foods at a psychological level.

why do you need some?
self-control comes when you understand what you are "controlling" and that behaviors do not constitute "self" rather only a portion of it
what do you need help controlling?

Well specifically my pot smoking and study habits (or lack thereof). Pot isn't that big of a deal, I go days without smoking on a regular basis, but it seems like it makes me lazy or less motivated. That is really the hump I'm trying to get over because it is fucking with my study time.

How much do you care about school? Do you have a passion you are following?

it's just like exercising, or eating healthy, or anything you like to do that you've learned how to do
the reason most people don't like self-control is because they feel they can't have fun with it.

No, I hate school, but I need to graduate for the basic reason of more gainful employment.

yes. all the 2012 stuff helps me justify not putting forth any effort to study so i can make some green papers manifest.
but i mean, the point is to do what you love doing and then just accept whatever amount of money society gives you
i am not quite sure what that it is, but apparently it isn't taking classes.
if it all comes down to it though, shaved head a robe.....

It is the result of conscious effort. The first step is to seriously take responsibility for every thought and action without judging the self and others. Take that idea as far as it can go and self control will flow from it.
-------------------- "A warrior is a hunter. He calculates everything. That's control. Once his calculations are over, he acts. He lets go. That's abandon. A warrior is not a leaf at the mercy of the wind. No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

Then let go of your self importance.
