Is a good idea to filter the hot malt extract agar mix through coffe filters before sterilizing to avoid residues?
My pressure cooker goes to 18 psi how much sterilization time do you recommend?
Thanks in advance!

Agar advises that you pressure cook, decant, and then pressure cook again.
Pressure cooking a malt solution causes the sediment to form at the bottom of the jar. This makes it easy to pour off your solution while keeping the "gunk" at the bottom to throw out. Then just pressure cook again, and you're ready to go.

One should gently swirl the container of agar just before pouring. Sterilize ONCE, then when nearly cool to room temp, pour the plates. Don't pour the plates until the agar has cooled to the point you don't need any kind of heat protection from your hands. Don't filter it. RR

And what about just filtering the malt extract?

I think one person is talking about liquid culture, and one is talking about agar.
yes, for LC filter the malt solution.
for using agar, do as RR says.
tweexican, happy b-day, and that's good advise. after pc'ing the light malt LC, it will create sediment, even if you filtered before hand.
so pc the solution, filter it, then pc it again. you'll be good to go sediment free after that.
