Sterilization and Innoculation
    #655826 - 05/31/02 12:26 PM (22 years, 7 months ago)

I'm planning on growing shrooms for the first time in the coming days. I wanted to know if it's safe to make the substrate, put it in the jars, sterilize them with pressure cooker/pot, but wait a day or two after to innoculate them. I'm sort of in a time constraint and it'd be the most beneficial/easiest if I could do everything save for the innoculation(it's a long story). If anyone could help me out that'd be great. I've read as many FAQ's that I could find.

Peace folks.

I've chatted with a few cultivators and one said he waited 5 days to innoculate and everything turned out fine. I let my jars sit over night in the PC and they had to wait all day yesterday until I got home in the evening til I innoculated. I would just keep the jars in the pressure cooker at room temperature until you get back. But I'm also a newbie on my first grow...so keep your options open to more veteran opinions!

Love & Light and good luck with your grow.

I don't think it should be a problem. You're sterilizing the jars to kill potential contaminants from growing. Once the jar is sterilized - if you've managed to sterilize it properly and as long as it's not opened - it should still be sterile a couple of days later. Waiting a day or so to inoculate the jars wouldn't make much difference. To be safe, you may want to leave the jars in the pot you're sterilizing them in afterwards - until you need to take them out for inoculation.

Ive waited 2 weeks before innoculation of jars and all spores germinated fine.
