I use a tray I made for a large dehydrator. Its simply a 2x2' square w/ window screen stapled on, then lathe nailed on to keep it sturdy. You can make one any size you want. Ive also seen people use 5 gallon buckets, with a hole cut out of the lid, and window screen placed inbetween the lid and the bucket. You can soak the grain in the bucket then just flip it over in your bathtub or sink and let it drain.

If you have a clothes dryer.
Place 10 kilo hydrated wbs in a sturdy pillow case bag.
Tie the bag closed VERY WELL.
Place bag in cloths dryer, on WARM.
Let it spin awhile (6 or 8 minutes).
Then, check to see if it needs more drying.
Once wbs looks/feels fairly dry.
Rig another bag & repeat.

You can drain/dry 25+ kilo hydrated wbs, very fast, that way.

A piece of window screen attached to a plastic or wood frame.

I assume you have a walk-in autoclave or fifty PC's? You can't soak more than you can sterilize or it ferments and ruins.

but may I soak, drain, fill jars and then Pc in two or three runs (2 hours each)?
will the seeds just ferment in that short time?

You can do 25 kilos in two or three runs? You must have a PC the size of a refrigerator.

i wouldnt worry about it and just add enough verm to each jar so that there is no standing water. that way there is even added moisture which the myc likes

That would be my dream:tongue::grin:

But is ok (wherever kilos I do)to have them waiting in their jars untill their turn to Pc, or is to wait that time (at most 5 hours to the last run) to much and their will ferment?

Never add verm to a grain jar to cover for sloppy preparation. Grains are spawn, verm is not. If one can figure out how much vermiculite to add to cover for too much moisture, then it should be a simple step to substract that amount of moisture.

Grains can sit for 5 hours in the jars before sterilization without problems.

how do you figure that? The quantities of verm we are talking about is less than a 1/8 cup per quart jar which has absolutely no effect on how many total nutrients are in the jar. Its just to make sure there is no standing water and gives the added benefit of not having to wait and worry about drying it AND having overall more moisture in the quart jar. Im just telling you what has worked perfect for me every time.

Its not hard to eye the amount. Just add a tid bit then shake up, if there is still standing water add a tid bit more until there is no standing water. We arent talking about rocket science here.

Except that any verm in the jar is occupying real estate that properly hydrated grains can occupy to the greater good. I have no doubt you can have good results with verm in the grain jar, I'm just asserting that you can have even better results without it, after taking a bit of time to get the moisture content right. Once you do, the routine becomes easy to repeat every time.

again the amount of verm is so miniscule that the amount of room the verm takes up is nill. its not like the jars are being filled to the tippy-top anyways because they need to be shaken..sooo if theres room to be shaken than there is room for some verm. this process is BETTER than letting the grain dry because there is overall MORE water moisture in the jar which the mycellium needs and loves. if you do it this way you are sure to have success without "wet spots" and other problems associated with the other way.

I used agars suggestion and used the dryeir and my seeds felt almost dry doesnt that ruin the whole process or is the moisture still in the inside of the seed??

Remember, you are NOT drying cloths.
A few minutes, on air dry, or very low heat.
Is all it takes.

Mash a few. It they are moist inside. They are fine.

Moisture content is almost always the place new growers screw up with grain, and 99% of the time it's from being too wet. We almost never see a post where the grains are too dry unless the grower forgot to use a lid.
