I know it depends on how much spawn there is and verybody is different but I was wondeirng what the longest time someone has successfully waited for their monotub to colonize. What is roughly the date when afterwards it just isnt working?

I waited over 2 weeks for a tub of straw/poo B+ spawned with popcorn to colonize. the B+ was slow in colonizing, and on top of that some of that time was spent with temps in the low-to-mid 60s. Anyway, I always err on the side of caution, since it's worth a few days to not lose a whole tub to contamination.
I'd say you're screwed after 2-3 weeks, since pasteurization wears off after around 2.

With the correct spawn ratios it shouldnt take longer than 2 weeks. If it does either you have contams, or your moisture content is off. Mine usually take a week. THe more spawn you use obviously the less time you have to wait. I wouldnt stretch my spawn any more than 1:5 becuase your just begging for contams and long colonization times after 1:5 ratios. Moisture content is extremly important in colonization times too, so is GAS EXCHANGE, but not FAE... and the heat at which you colonize... which shouldnt be above 80 because myecellium produces heat on its own and contams love heat.

how would you have gas exchange if you dont have FAE? I just have mine in a tub without the holes drilled yet so there is no air exchange at all. any ideas?

you just solved your problem. You need Gas exchange or colonization will halt due to too much CO2. The difference between Gas exchange and FAE is this. Gas exchange you don't have to have air flowing through it, in fact you don't want any air FLOWING through it something like polyfill or tyvek is a great barrier for this. FAE you NEED air flowing through one of these barriers in order to initiate pinning.

im a little confused still. I thought the low CO2 levels were required otherwise it will start to initiate pinning. Should I just fan the tub once every two days or so?

No, FAE iniaties pinning. Gas exchanges lets some of the Co2 out so the mycellium doesnt suffocate and die. Put a ceran wrap top on with some slits in it covered with micropore tape or drill holes in teh side and put in polyfill. You need gas exchange, its not the same thing as FAE.

Not trying to thread jack, about how high should the polyfill holes be above the substrate?

My longest colonization has been 4 days, 5 tops.
I use spawn frosting with my monotubs. It helps out a great amount with colonization speed and adding a protective layer for what's under from contaminants.

is spawn frosting when you have a thin layer of myc on top of the substrate?
Jorsher- only a couple of inches not too high because the CO2 is heavier than air and sinks from what I understand.
