..Is it more beneficial for your body to get sleep during night than in the day? Ive heard that the best hours of sleep you will get are before midnight...

Ive heard the most important hours for sleep are the hours between 2am and 6am.

centrum said: The deepest sleep only occurs between 11pm-12pm. This is the time when Growth hormones and other rejuvinating hormones are released the most. This period of sleep is dreamless and 3x deeper than sleep after midnight. Also, during this time, your liver cleans out the blood.
Best time to sleep and restore your natural clock is getting in bed before 10pm. Even if you dont fall asleep right away, just laying there relaxed with your eyes closed, you will still recieve 90% of the benefits of sleeping.
Do you have a source for this?

ive always heard that it doesnt really matter what time you sleep, as long as you give yourself atleast 6-8 hours.. to allow yourself to go into a "deep sleep" and blah blah blah.. idk it was psycology class and my teacher was a retard, just what we were told.. something about different stages and how you go thru rapid eye movement and then finally a stage where your heart slows down and you can dream..
wouldnt suprise me if he completely made up that shit though, he was truly mildly retarded.

The reason I ask is because there seems to be quite conflicting information on sleep research. Some say adults need 8 hours of sleep and some say 6-8. I guess I just have to keep trying to figure out what works best for me, but it seems there may be other varibles preventing me from getting a good nights rest from 8 hours of sleep.
Given my current schedule, it's quite hard for me to get to sleep before 12am.

...in all my interactions with them..psychology teachers have always been crazy..
..sleepwise..I guess yea its all in what your body requires personally..i think i do best with 8 hours myself..I was jus wondering about the diff times of the day

hmm, thinking back, I recall something about the amount of light (or the lack thereof) would trigger the release of some chemical (maybe a hormone? what was it, melatonin? seratonin?) which would help put you to sleep. So sun goes down, chemicals begin to release, after I think half hour you should be sleeping.
However, this doesnt seem to coincide with the 11oclock thing, cause sometimes the sun goes down freakin early (like in winter), and along with modern advancements (like candles) we can have light during the night.
I have no idea where Im goin with this... just rambling I guess. Maybe, turn your lights off when you go to bed? Dont give your childen a nightlight?
