The Psychedelic Experience
    #6529645 - 02/04/07 12:02 PM (17 years, 1 month ago)

The Psychedelic Experience <--free online version

A manual based on the Tibetan Book of the Dead By Timothy Leary, Ph.D., Ralph Metzner, Ph.D., & Richard Alpert, Ph.D.

While I'm sure there are numerous threads about this book I find it to be very informative.

If anyone hasn't read it, you should check it out.

It actually did help me learn to "give in" to the imminent death of my ego last week. I believe the phrase that stuck with me was "...float downstream". After reflecting on those words for what seemed like an eternity i soon realized that the "I" that was struggling to hold on had become a buoyant feather floating down a melting river of ancient information. Didn't really respect Leary that much but his words did indeed influence my trip for the better. Have you read any Pinchbeck?

I liked the float downstream part as well, I'm not a big beatles fan but one of their songs has a similar theme.

I've never heard of Pinchbeck I'm going to look into him thought, thanks for the recommendation

Timothy Leary sucks... If you're interested in drug using intellectuals McKenna is way cooler, or Huxley.

Buddhism and psychedelics don't really compliment each other too well, at least thats what I've found as I've taken on a deeper interest in Buddhism.

Not to say theres anything wrong with psychedelics, they can be great tools, and provide great insight. Psychedelics are good stuff, but I don't think they will enlighten you as Timothy Leary seemed to promise they would.

BTW, I own, and I have read the psychedelic experience front to back. I've also tripped my fair share.

Yeah, Huxley is the man. The doors of perception is pretty good.

McKenna is also good reading.
