Questions on Sterile Procedure/Disinfectants

I have been using 70% Isopropyl in a mist bottle as a disinfectant for surfaces etc in the lab.
I have recently switched to Lysol for surfaces, and Oust for the air.
Is Lysol much better then the Isopropyl? I like how the Lysol is forced out, while the Isopropyl is just a mist, but Lysol seems much more expensive. Are some things done w/ Lysol and others Isopropyl?
What do you all use these two products for? Thanks

I use Quaternary ammonium salts to mist with. This one of the ingredients in lysol. I use it in this form. Restraunt and/or bar supply stores sell a bottle of 100 to a bottle of 150 tablets for 6 to 12 dollars depending on what brand you buy. One tablet makes a gallon of sanitizer. I also use this for wiping countertops ect. where I will be working.
I wipe with a paper towel soaked in isopropyl the inside of the glove box, latex gloves and scalpel handle.
I don't know if lysol is more effective than alcohol, it does contain more than one disinfectant, besides Quaternary ammonium salts it also contains thymol and some alcohol.
I've also heard that some molds can survive in 70% isopropyl alcohol, I don't have a link or a source for this so I'm not sure how true this is.

That's why even with the best sanitizing, you should still flame sterilize scalpels and loops, needles, etc., before and between uses. I have good luck using alcohol on surfaces, and oust for the air. I like oust because it leaves a fog that is still present ten minutes later. I give two oust treatments, then after ten minutes, I start the flowhood and let it run for half an hour before beginning work. RR

I buy the BIG plastic bottles of "lemon scent" lysol from a restaurant supply place (smart&final). Then, pour it into "mist" bottles & use that for surfaces. I use "Oust" for air.
A great surface sanitizer is white vinegar, in one mist bottle. And, 3% hydrogen peroxide in another. Spray one, give it a few seconds. Then, spray the other, give it a few seconds. Then, wipe down. Doesn't matter which you spray first. That combo will even kill E. coli, dead in its tracks.
Trouble is, I HATE the vinegar odor.
Oddly, if they are combined (in 1 mist bottle), they don't work as well.
