Portions of the outside of the cakes might be bruised, but I doubt you seriously hurt them. If no mycelium is showing yet, then they probably are not even bruised.

Well once you`ve innoculated you give them a shake to disperse the spores. Also once they`re about 30% colonised shake them again. Speeds up colonisation. Keeps more space inbetween substrate for mycelium to grow. also you`ll find that hitting the bottom of your jar with your paml will loosen things up as well. All this well speed up colonisation. It`s not like you`re actually touching anything. Only once the cake is fully colonised will any form of bruising occur, even then it`s nothing to be worried about.

You only shake your jars if you are using Grains.. (Birdseed, whole rye grain, etc)... if your using Brown Rice Flour/ Verm... then you dont shake...

DO NOT LISTEN TO WHOMEVER told you to skae yer BRF jars....
Dont shake them, you will have the chance of contamination...
That is why the verm layer on the top is seperated from the substrate... If you shake the jar the verm layer on top wont be there and well you expose yourself to contams... Also if you shake substrate will get stuck all over the jar, and on the lid and sides,, inviting contams into the jar
You only shake grains....
