bonnaroo security

I'm not new to the festival scene, but this year will be my first bonnaroo. Can anyone explain how it went down last year? I heard at points there were police searching cars upon entry, any truth to this? Also, the website says they now own the property - surely this would prevent that from happening again but I don't know.
I also wonder if it wouldn't be advantageous to get to TN a day earlier and get on the property as soon as allowed.
thanks for any info

i had a few friends that went to work as security last year and they said that when they were briefed they even said "we know theres gonna be lots of drugs, so don't bother the ppl smokin a joint, or the people eating mushrooms or even the people w/ back packs selling drugs we're looking for the guys selling the packpacks full of drugs for other people to sell" and honestly he said that ppl were walkin around and instead of the usual "hotdogs, peanuts, beer" they were sayin "headies, fungus, gooballs" so unless your big time makin moves i wouldn't stress it, have fun!

I can't wait for summertime and festivals every month
once met a shroomery member from Oklahoma at a festival (won't disclose which) never did get the dude's id.

My experience is that if you want to put on an event (especially one the size of Roo) you need to get extensive permits from the city/county. Invariably this means making agreements to allow law enforcement to do just about anything they want.
Personally I don't see the appeal of going to something the size of Roo or BM, I do just fine with the 100-1000 person range...

OK, you have it backwards. Last year we went in a day early and got searched HORRIBLY. They tore apart our car and searched inside our tents and everything they could. Found a bunch of stuff, but the only thing they were going to charge me with was for a bag of poppy pods which they didn't even know what they were. Going a day early hurt us. I didn't end up getting charged for anything, but the guy wrote a ticket halfway out. We got our cracker and really nice pipes taken though.
I think it was just because we arrived early though, and very late at night. We didn't look suspicious at all, it was me and 3 younger attractive girls.
We were some of the first people there though, and once people started flooding in, they didn't check people - they were just looking for nitrous tanks. If your arriving really early - make sure to hide your stuff. Even if they find anything, they probably won't charge you for anything if you talk to them the right way and are nice, unless you have a ton of stuff. If you get in when the hoards of people are coming, I wouldn't be too worried.

That sucks dude. I really want to do bonnaroo, but fuck the police man. I know of smaller festivals (5-10,000 people) where there is no police presence. Hopefully it stays that way. Who decided trying to get into a music festival was probable cause for a search?

i went to bonnaroo two years ago and we got there ~2pm friday when the line on the interstate was about 6mi long. Well the guy who was driving is an asshole and cut pretty much the whole line - so we got to the gate around 3pm on friday and all they did was say "you got any glass in the car (bottles, not bongs)" and we said "no" and he said 'open the back hatch' (we're in a ford expedition), so he opens the back window and the car is packed full of shit - he said "screw this", closed it, and let us go.

Ive been to every bonnaroo except for the first and i can honestly say that the security has gotten tighter and more anal retentive every year with last years taking the cake, they threatened to tear up our car because we forgot to mention we had a single bottle liquer me forgot to mention. not to mention numerous bags and pipes taken from me with one notable one happening right after cyphrus hill concert. now i still might go but the lineup coming out pretty soon better be stellar for me to even consider it. security really bummed my vibes out last year. not to mention it makes it that much harder to locate the good shit and the poeple who has it dont want to show thier face out of fear, everyone was schechty about the popop scene last year on shakedown and i know u can xpect it to get worse

that's essentially what they did to me, except all I had was a cooler and a sleeping bag in the back.
But I know that other security points were tighter

I'm not sure about security at boonaroo, but at Ozzfest everything went very smoothly. I really doubt drugs are what their searching for. Everyone walked though a metal detector & you wernt allowed to bring bottles without caps in that was it. I wish I was able to go to boonaroo this year, enjoy it! The only reason I even mention ozzfest is because of the size. I would assume weapons would be their main concern.

Two summers ago is the only time i've had trouble with security at Roo. When we pulled in a day early at 3am or so, there was a line of cops outside of their SUV's asking everyone if they can search cars. I of course said No officer, I do not consent to any searches. All he did after I said that was put a big red x on my windshield that i proceeded to wash off with my window washer fluid before we got to the check point where they take youre ticket.
Last year was hilarious, my caravan and I get there and at the gate we give them our ticket in exchange for our wrist band and all the guy says is "Another car full of hippies, go on through have a blast!" He did not search anything nor ask to search.

when I went in last year, they searched us. they were searching every 3rd car/vehicle or so.
they did a pretty good job, but not too great. they didn't find what they were after.
for anyone planning to attend the roo this year, no matter when you plan on showing up, plan on your vehicle being searched. it most likely will happen. Their excuse is glass bottles, so don't bring any of those.
plan accordingly.
fuckers.
