Are these jars still good?
    #6518117 - 01/31/07 11:20 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

Ok, so I Pced some quart size WBS last September '06. I left them in my TiT but never inoculated. What I'm wondering is if they are still good because I left my PCed LC in there that I hadn't inoculated and it turned really dark. My TiT water was around 111 degrees Fahrenheit. So I think the LC caramelized and from the home made stir rode, which was a nail rusted and rust got into the LC. So I'm wondering if my WBS jars are still good even though they have been introduced to between 100 - 111 degrees Fahrenheit.

As I say with anything questionable I say if you have the lc or spores to waste you have nothing to lose by knocking them up and trying,I would start a new project in the meantime and not get my hopes up on 4 month old jars still having the correct moisture contant to collonize proberly but good luck anyway

Moisture content would be the major worry, it seems to me. It'd be hard to imagine that the substrate wouldn't have dehydrated by this point if there was any FAE at all, and similarly hard to imagine that the saturation of the substrate and moisture distribution within it would be adequate, even if it hadn't. Given the cost of WBS, don't know why you wouldn't just dump them and PC some new ones.
