P51 Mustang Tattoo

I've casually thought about it for a while now, and the P51 is probably a great tattoo that applies to me personally, but I'm not sure how well it would translate into a good-looking tattoo.
I'm thinking upper arm, with an isometric view of the plane showing a good overall view of it's awesome design, but the problem is that kind of seems a bit too static. It's hard to find a reference for an action scene though, as those are usually all artist's renditions and harder to find.
I'm thinking something like these would be great if modified a bit to be more appropriate for a tattoo:
(my favorite one... shows off the badass chrome)
nice angle, but somewhat bland colors
Would be better for a monochrome tattoo.
I've thought about this for years but never gotten any feedback on the idea.

Nice,I hardly know anything about aircrafts and models but I've always liked the F1-17 stealth fighter.

I would find an artist in your area that specializes in retro looking tattoos.. pin-up style women, hot-rods, etc..
and, definately pick the flattest part of your body you want a tattoo... something like that will like kind of shitty if it's all distorted by the curve of a shoulder or bicept or back of calf.. IMO..
otherwise, it should be pretty easily laid down on a nice, flat palette by someone who knows what they're doing.

I think it's a good idea. I don't think arm would be the best place for it though. It's going to have to be pretty big to keep that much detail, back or chest would probably work best. I prefer F4U corsairs.

It seems like the type of thing that would go good on your left shoulder, the flat part on the back, facing out. Like on your "wing". Not only would it look good there (Flat and it would make sense, it would look like it's going to fly off your shoulder or something ) that's one of the less painful places to get a tattoo.

i dunno about that... I think it depends on your body type.. I'm very slim w/ really lean muscle, and getting ink over my shoulder blades hurts like a bitch..
it is a good spot for this if you're built right, though.

That does sound like a pretty logical place to put it, but I might have a few qualms with that.
Firstly, I'm pretty skinny and honestly I'm not sure what kind of excercise would even be required to build up the muscle in that location. Secondly, it would be harder to show it off if it was there and Thirdly, I don't know how to take care of a new tattoo anyhow, and putting it where it's hard for me to reach would only make that worse.
When I have the cash I'll probably go talk to some local tattoo artists about it and see what they think. I wonder how much they'd charge for it... I think I'll give them a reference picture and ask them to turn it into a nice design.
