$1M worth of meth sniffed out by drug dog

Nearly $1 million worth of methamphetamine hidden in a false compartment of a pickup was sniffed out by a drug dog during a traffic stop Monday.

A state Department of Public Safety officer had stopped the driver of a Nissan pickup for following another motorist too closely and found the meth when Rico, the drug dog, reacted to the truck, said DPS Sgt. Mark Morlock.

The stop was made on Interstate 10 just south of the Pinal County line. The driver, Joshio A. Amarillas, 18, gave the officer written permission to search the truck, said Morlock, who is assigned to the multiagency Counter Narcotics Alliance.

A false compartment under the pickup bed yielded 68 1-pound packages of highly addictive methamphetamine, he said.

Amarillas was arrested and turned over to the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, which is continuing an investigation with Counter Narcotics Alliance agents. He was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on federal drug charges, Morlock said, adding he suspects the drugs were being sent up here Monday morning by a large Mexican drug ring. Amarillas had driven the truck into the United States about 9 a.m. Monday at the Nogales Port of Entry, Morlock said.

The drugs, Morlock said, were destined for the Phoenix area, probably to be held in a stash house for sale and distribution elsewhere.

Sigh, he got through the "hard part" of getting the shit across the border but he couldn't manage to drive properly enough to make the drop...

once again , i don't sigh when methamphetamine is involved.
Crack and Meth are the only worthy causes in the " war on drugs ".

I feel the same. Possibly heroine too. I hate to badmouth them since some people can control their habits, but most the idiots in this world can't. Meth and crack are two drugs I'll never consume.

^^ 'Ey, both of ya. There's no such thing as a "worthy cause" in the War on Drugs. You guys are talking about Crack, Meth, and Heroin but those are the drugs that drive the most profits and keep drug cartels in business.

Those are the drugs the government needs to re-evaluate its stance on the most, because their continued illegality drives so much strife and violence. I mean hell, if I was a politician I'd feel more threatened from LSD than crack. At least that drug if you legalize and tax, all the crackheads are in one place and you know what they're doing. But LSD?... but that might help people start to, *gasp* think freely!

As opposed to the standard, mildly addictive methamphetamine. :smirk:
