suspicious cake
    #651184 - 05/29/02 01:19 PM (14 years, 6 months ago)

One of my colonizing cakes looked a bit suspisious, and for some reason I decided to open the cap and a take a peek. What I found was something that looks like weak mycellium (but maybe cobweb?) growing up through the dry verm layer, and also I found some worms! (dead ones curled up in the mycellium) It's probably best I throw it out, but I was thinking that maybe if there is no other contamination other than the worms, could I attempt to extract the psilocybin from the cake, or better yet, let it grow to produce mushrooms? Please let me know what you think.

dude how the hell did you get worms in your cake? I heard that they eat the mycelium maybe thats what it was.
I think that mycelium has to grow for a mounth before you can extract it but dont hold me to this. any way id throw it out. Later

Dude, I think the worm died from tripping so hard!

I'd go ahead and toss it, I am sure a worm had to of brought some contams along with him.

I've seen dead dried up worm bits when I was mixing my substrate. Looks like its in some vermiculate types.

dead worms are a part of vermiculite

so your whole cake therefore is made from dead worms

Dried worms are not a PART of vermiculite. Vermiculite is the mineral Mica that is heated to the point of all the moisture being released..thus making it puffy. Maybe they could end up in there..but they definetly not a part of vermiculite.
