yellow stain on mycelium
    #651172 - 05/29/02 11:16 AM (21 years, 4 months ago)

hello all,
supervising a first casing and noticed something.here is the setup:rye substrate colonized in quart jars, cased with 100% coir,
what has been done so far:after casing in a 2 gal clear plastic rubber maid with lid on, placed in dark warm location 84f for about a week and a half( was gone for the last four days), checked the casing and the mycelium had spread very thick across 50% of the casing the other 50% had some poking through also but the other was thick like moss and very white, moved to fruiting stage, dropped temp to about 77- 78f and misted with a fine mist and covered with clear plastic wrap exposing the light. a few days later a slight light yellow tint appeared on the mycelium but doesn't seem to be spreading. any ideas??

Don't worry about it. It is excretement from the mycelium. I had the same thing happen to mine. I was told that it also happens when the cake doesnt get enough oxygen.

thank you for your replies,
all sound good to me, because the casings did get fruited a little late (my thoughts)
and there was no one around to fan it either. thanks psilo,,,,,,,
