for the past few years i have been taking care of a friends dog. i just pile the shit in the woods, over the course of 3 years a big pile gathered. so it has been sitting back there for a while, snow has collected over it for winters, it has been rained on etc. the pile of shit also has a lot of cedar shavings in it because i line the dogs outdoor kennel with it. i was just wondering would this make good organic fertilizer for weed?

i don't know much about growing weed but i doubt dog shit would work. You want shit from herbivores, not carnivores.

Yeah I'd steer clear of using it. Go with bat guano. Bats that eat bugs you get high nitrogen guano. Bats that eat fruit give a high phosphorus guano. There are a ton of places to buy it. I've seen that the guano from Sun Leaves works well.

stumbled across this just a moment ago. You could prolly build a similar bin to work at a larger scale for very little dough: Recycle You Pet Wastes into a Healthy Soil Amendment
No, this is not some bizarre looking cat litter box - we just thought Pappy looked cute next to it. Actually, this is a full fledged vermiculture system specially designed to recycle pet poop into nutritious worm castings for your plants and garden. Now, instead of throwing the crap down the toilet, in the trash or into the neighbor's yard, you can help eliminate part of your waste stream by using the power of hungry Composting Redworms to do the dirty work for you.
The multi-tiered Converter is comprised of two sturdy boxes, the upper 'farming level' has a perforated floor, aeration vents, and a hinged lid, while the lower section is fitted with a drain spout for collecting the finely sifted castings and nutrient-rich compost tea. Not to be used with feces from animals recently treated for worms.
* Keeps pet wastes out of the environment and off your shoe * Highly educational for the whole family * Unit is virtually odor free * Provides a continuous source of worms for fishing * Will accept most pet wastes, including cat*, dog, rabbits, equine, and pigs * Aeration holes on lid and vent slits on the body * Unit will handle the dropping from two average-sized canines * May be used indoors or outdoors provided unit is kept out of direct sunlight * Complete instructions and harvest tip provided * bedding, chopsticks and redworms (1# to start is recommended) - not included * Made in Australia

sounds like a little too much work, i mean i would do it but i just am too lazy. i think that worm castings, cow shit, and or miracle grow is enough to keep it covered for the summer. would it be smart to use perlite, and lime for a swamp grow?

No, because dog/cat shit comes from meat eaters.

Herbivores and herbivores alone should be the source of droppings for compost.
Carnivores and omnivores both have a lot of nasty toxic shit in their... erm, shit.
