Maitake.....(updated with pics)

I think my head is going to explode.
I ordered maitake from vender, it comes, i use, i grow reishi instead! they gave me wrong syringe.
So about 3 months after all I finally get a replacement, now ive been waiting a while to get my maitake going so I say ok lets make 4 BIG bags.
Well here we are about month + its finally in the fruiting chambers 4 BIG bags.....and what do i see? I see the start of what looks like REISHI.
description:
bags were white, turned brownish yellow, in fruiting chamber white balls formed....now they are turning yellowish brown and some have white runners coming out of them.
So if this is what I think it is I am VERY TICKED. Them 4 bags took 6 LONG hours to make, not to mention all the time waiting.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
as promised
This looks very much like my last miatake grow <---whoops i mean reishi
As you can see in this picture there is a very laquered look to it.
This is bag 3 put into fruiting chamber days ago.
This is bag 4 ready to be added to the fruiting chamber.

I think what you are seeing is the primordia/pinning stage of maitaki.
They start with white marshmellow-looking bumps, which extend and become darker brown, eventually turning somewhat grey?
From what I've seen described in Stamet's book, that is how maitake develops, and that's the stage mine are in also. I think maitake is one of the most difficult to fruit.
FWIW, I got mine from sporeworks also. But I really think it is maitake, not reishi.

One thing's for sure, it's certainly not Maitake. Reshi indeed.

Those look a lot like mine.
They do match the description in Stamet's Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms. He says those promordia will exude brown liquid which colors them brownish, they elongate and become more grey, and this forms the main stem from which the "leaves" of the fruits will develop. The method he describes for growing them is to cut the top off the bag and poke a few holes in the bottom for drainage. You might try that with bag #4.
Hell, the way I look at it... if mine is reishi too, I got a bonus. Sporeworks will still send me a maitake culture, and I got reishi for free!
Sporeworks has been very helpful and responsive anytime I've had questions or issues, so I'm sure they'll jump to make this right if it is in fact reishi instead of maitake.

It appears from these reports (and images) that some maitake material may have left our lab, or shipping facility, incorrectly labeled. This is HIGHLY embarrassing in this field, and for this mixup we are truly sorry. We certainly want to make this right by any customer who has been affected, just PM me (or send our customer service email) and we will take care of this for you ASAP.
We are returning our Maitake to primary spore material to eliminate any possible problems with culture cross contamination, fresh culture material may be available again in 2-3 weeks. We do have spore print samples of maitake and would be more than happy to send these as replacements.
We appreciate everyone's kind words and we also appreciate your understanding with this mixup. Please contact us if you have been affected so we can make this right!

Well, I sort of wanted a Reishi anyways! I got a labeled-as-Maitake syringe from the last grab bag special, so maybe I'll be in luck! Either way, it'll be good.
