Anechoic Chambers

Anybody ever hear about these? A properly built anechoic chamber allows no sound reflection to take place. I believe they started being built in the late 60's early 70's in studios for sound recording and have become rather rare because the level of sound purity they allow is not desired by most sound-recorders/musicians as it seems to extract life from the sounds being produced.

Upon entering a secure chamber the first thing one notices is a complete change of atmosphere. Not only are they rather odd looking physically, but their attributes seem to cause a change in the atmosphere. Complete silence. All you hear is your heart beating and the blood rushing through your veins.

I was told by an old engineer friend of mine that folks used to go into these rooms and just completely trip out. I suppose there's an aspect of sensory deprivation to it, but I imagine it would be a blast - so long as you weren't locked in.

Anyone familiar with them? Ever been in one? Whilst tripping? Anybody know where one can be found? :smile:
