When I lived in NJ I hunted high and low, and never found a single Muscaria. I had contacted the Mushrooms club in paramus and the guy told me about Psilocibe Caerulipes and where to search. I hit up every state park in all of northern NJ and never found a one. I wish you luck

I used to live near Philadelphia. I have looked but never found anything. I don't see why nothing would grow though, all you need is the right conditions. I cannot find and have not ever found any information on Pennsylvania. Species listed for New York (Stamets 1996) are listed as inactive (and unpallable in most cases).

What I have noticed is that active mushrooms tend to grow near the west coast of continents. Example: Wales, England, Washington, Oregon. Both theses places have similar climates and wind conditions. I live in England and never have any trouble finding any during the right season. This is completely made up by me without any research. Maybe someone else can verify this more.
