Anyone go fishing?

I know its a boring hobby but I was thinking of taking up fishing for trout. I used to fish for Pike with lures years ago but you can't eat pike so it's pointless.
I would be using bait, not fly fishing.
I might but a rod/reel combo from Argos for £20

I've heard that if you throw dynamite into a lake, the shockwave kills all the fish and then they all just float to the surface
if you ask me - that's probably the most efficient way to go

its not boring if you actually know how to fish and understand them.
I use all artificials. usually after largemouths, walleye, crappie, wipers.

Same here!
I've loved it all my life, but ever since turning 18 I discovered the fun of fishing while drinking beer. It's the best.

FISH ON
fish off
Fresh 30 pound salmon kick ass! I used to go a LOT, but since high school i haven't gone as much. But i have fished from cost to cost, for what ever the local calls for. Salmon/stealhead in Oregon to trout in the Sieara Nevadas. Bass, bream, catfish, and gar down in the south. To the trout, stealhead, salmon, muskie, pike, pickerel, bass, channel cats, striped bass, blue fish, and flounder of the north east.
I have read in old books, that if you can catch fish in my state you can catch a fish any where. Do to the fishing pressure and human presence, and shallow techical fishing with little cover.
Got in to fishing when i was young. First rod was a stick with string and a paper clip hook. Got into tying flys when i was in fith grade. Got into fly fish by sixth. Been on some amazing trips. Cought plenty of fish to smile about. Maybe if time allows i will get more fishing in this year.

Fishing is a wonderful science that is yet to be mastered and controlled completely. However technology thees days are making it unfair for the fish. Cameras, sonar, radar, flashers, depth finders, GPS, the list goes on.
I started fishing 1 year ago, I was so into it, i went fishing nearly everyday for almost 40 days. But that is just me. I like to do things so much i get bored and move on to another obsession. I still like fishing but don't go nearly as much.
I would advocate it for sure. It is a great place to spend some time. Bait your hook with a good worm, maybe some power bait on the end as well. Keep your worm about 1' off the bottom, tie a bell to your pole, sit back, smoke bowl, maybe eat some mushrooms, enjoy nature, wait for the bell to ring, and maybe bring home some fresh fish dinner, and get some photos to brag about.
Fishing is nothing but a positive hobby. Gives you time to reflect on nature and yourself. Gives you maybe a single quiet hour out of your day to maybe try to think clearly with out any interruptions.
Fishing is another one of those things where the more you learn, you begin to realize how little you know.

I used to fish soo much when I was younger, my bestfriend and I used to go every day. I lived out in the country and there where ponds in both our back yards loaded with fish, a larger pond at his neighbors and one at my neighbors, then one down the road. As you can tell I was surrounded by small bodies of water! It is a good time if you have the patience, and the others are right you can always catch a buzz

This thread's so danged great I had to play that song called FISH ON
I used to go fishing with my dad when I was younger and that was a lot of fun even though I usually just sat in the boat with them sharpening hooks. He still showed me how to cast and stuff so I had a pole set up while I was with them I just couldn't really use it myself. I also fish off the dock sometimes when I go up to this cabin some people I know own. I haven't been fishing with anybody since I used to go with my dad though, it's hard to find another person willing to go.

Fishing is great! I got this sucker in my pond right now, as well as a few dozen bass. It just un-froze so i wonder how he is doing. This is a pic of my buddy with his big catfish.
11 lbs. when i threw him in my 3/4 acre pond. He should have gained a few pounds by now!

Dude I dunno what you're talking about "can't eat pike"... I went ice fishing with my grandpa like just the other day and we caught a pike, built a fire and cooked it right there on the ice. Then ate it. And yes it is physically possible to build a fire on ice. The top of the ice melts, putting out the bottom of the fire, and there's equilibrium. it won't melt through the ice. So, eat pike. Because fishing is more hardcore than ston

I love fishing... for me it's really the act of fishing... I really don't care about catching anything.
Every opening day I go out w/ my dad and grandfather, stand waist deep in icy water, and watch the sun come up. I usually catch something too but the whole experience is much more important. I even seen a guy catch on fire one year but he prob. scared all the fish away.

Tried, idea is to get them up alongside a undercut bank. Stir up some mud, slowly go in and grab.
