Advice needed on testing isolates

I have isolated on agar for the first time, but I have ended up with tons of rhizo isolates (I inoculated far too many! Won't do that again, way too much work with so many!) I have a greenhouse and want to test each in small containers, but how small can i go and get a good judgement? Will the best isolate producer out of a ton of very small 2 inch trays also be the best producer when used with the same substrate (poo) but in larger 16qt sweater boxes (5 inch depth of substrate). Or do i need to test with the same depth to be guaranteed? I hope not! With tons of isolates I hope i can find a pretty damn good strain!

Oh and also does anyone have advice on what size of tray to do such a test of many isolates?

Use at least the standard 9" X 11" trays. If you want to test the isolates, test them in the 'real world substrate trays' you'll be using. If you have too many isolates, mark them well and store the petri dishes in the refrigerator until you're ready to use them. RR

So is it that a certain isolate could perform well in a smaller plastic container and not in the larger one?
I have many isolates, is it worth it to test all of them out (over 70) in hopes of finding a super isolate? Is it worth it to continue looking for an even better isolate after finding the best out of 70? How good can they get?
I use 16qt sweater boxes, so i was hoping i wouldn't need to use that large of trays if i'm testing many, as i've read you say that some will not even fruit. That's a lot of h/poo to not fruit at all! But if i must, i must.

But with a name like "mycologyslutbag" perhaps you owe it to yourself? LOL Maybe if you already had a trusted brother in the art you would cut your time in half, but don't go looking for someone new.
