I think Bush is a pretty stupid name, and reminds me of a hairy vagina everytime I hear it, but people still voted for that douchebag.

Well I won't challenge you on your opinion but I really think you are in the minority here. I've seen this guy speak a couple times, and people practically through their underwear at him. He's everything Kerry isn't.

My feeling is that the excitement surrounding him is due to what he represents. A fresh face. First black male senator. First black man to have a serious shot at the Presidency. And the enormous change that would represent.
Not personal charisma.
True, he is not as boring as Kerry but that isn't saying much.

I'd wonder if his relatively short amount of time as an elected official would be a benefit to his chances. The system as it stands is inefficent and strangles any kind of independant thought. Let's start breaking the cycle and putting our money on an individual who will come in with the intent to bring positive change. I guess its possible that he's just like the rest of them, though - is anyone trying to dig up dirt on him?

No I would not vote for him, and no he would not make a good president. He strikes me as a someone who has become drunk on his own celebrity-dom (come on, "The Audacity of Hope" ), whose cliam to fame is just his race and charisma and a good speaking voice. I think he would be another Jimmy Carter.

If theres anything the last 6 years of the Bush Administration has taught me, a staunch yellow-dog Democrat, its that having a guy from your party in power is the most important thing, whether you agree with him 100% on every issue or not.
Thats why I'll support Obama. I may not agree with him on all the issues, and I may think that his leadership abilities are suspect. But he *IS electable. And that is the most important quality that he posesses in the eyes of many of us. The very fact that he can win.
Hillary cant say the same. While I am not personally opposed to a Hillary presidency, there are legions of people who are and who will not vote for her under any circumstances, no matter how well her campaign is run. As someone earlier in the thread said, if the DNC puts up Hillary, its suicide.
However, I dont think thats a big worry. The people in power in the Democratic party WANT to win. Those of us in the base are incredibly hungry to finally win a victory, especially after two close calls. I've only been voting for 7 years, and this will be my third presidential election, and we've come so close the last two times that its driving me crazy.
Obama can win, and thats why I'll vote for him.

i agree madtown, i feel the same way. Watching Bush the last six years one thing is certain: the president isn't running the show, all he does is allow for his party to dictate the country's agenda.
If Obama can get a good cabinet and advisors all he really needs to do is communicate the ideas assembled by his staff. Anybody can do that better than Bush. Does anybody really believe that Bush actually decides anything or writes any of his speeches? He even had a damn ear piece on during a debate...

I'm honestly surprised that no one has implied that if he IS elected, the muslims secret "we-will-rule-the-earth" agenda will have succeeded. THEY are coming to get you!

He has no chance. Zip, zero, nada, nil. Not this time anyway. He's like 12 right? Forget him. The fight will be between the skank and the hairdo, neither of whom will win the general.

well IMO its not really gonna make much of a difference because i don't believe in either party anymore and whomever is elected or selected is probably going to be as vanilla and media safe as possible. Strong opinions or a showing of real emotion on most issues is a sure way of getting voted out of the race early.

I hear about the "inexperience" of Obama......then I remind myself, what about all of the current "experience" we have in that monkey den. I wont even consider him, till he speaks his standpoints (which will probably change if he were to get into office)
