Possible actives near the beach...

Hello. I found these little wood-loving mushrooms growing near the beach in some dead wood amidst the grassy hummocks. The caps range in size from .75-1.5 inches in diameter, and they were growing directly out of rotten branches. As you can see from the pictures below (albeit poor quality ones), the stalks begin the same light brown as the caps, darkening as they approach the base, with vertical striations similar to those found on p. subbs... Although there is no bruising evident on the surface, the inside of the torn outer layer of the stems turned blue quickly when exposed to the air... Any idea what these are?

(difficult to see but blueing is shown on the inside of the stem)

dont eat them!
get a spore print, and tell us the color. I see the underlay is white, not a good sign.

Haha thanks for the warning; I don't intend to eat them, even if they are active. If anything I would dry them and store them following a positive ID. Once the excitement of finding something wears down, I find myself vexed for lack of both my mushroom guide and my camera... Ah, the perils of eagerness...

New2Grow, this hobby is one that should be taken very seriously, and many of us do not dare eat any kind of mushroom if we are not able to identify it ourselves.
Wordlessnature, get a spore print.

Hi. If those are growing out of the Lupines that grow in the Humboldt dunes, don't eat them. The psilocybe cyanescens on the beach in that area grow directly out of the roots of the beach grass. Look in the low spots between the hummocks where the grass is bent over and laying down. One secret to finding the beach cyans is to find everything else, then when you start finding cyan's they'll start to jump out at you. You'll find those shrooms (the bad ones that you picked) on almost every bush on the beach around there... but the cyans are in the grass. Take a spore print. You know what to look for.
Good Luck.
Peace

Well, good thing you din't eat 'em, eh? Just kidding, I know you're not that foolish. What beaches, generally, are you looking in?

Well, thus far I have combed the area that you mentioned earlier... I plan to explore a little further south down the road that led to the first site, based on a recommendation I received while hunting earlier today. There is an area where auto racing is conducted... I intend to explore the entire area, though.

Thanks... My only concern is that the season is overdue to end. I hope to have some success before that happens. Not necessarily to build a large cache for later consumption, but simply to have met with success in this area...
