I have some cakes in my fruiting chamber, and it seems that when the lights are off, they grow alot faster compared to when there on. i can actually tell the difference of a few hours these things grow FAST in total darkness. I had the light on for like 8 hours a day but now i think im going to make it alot less. So the question is do they really grow faster when there is no light or am I trippin'??

I know what you mean.
I think they do grow better in the dark myself. The light just triggers them to pin, and in what direction they should grow.
My pins were just forming once, and I left for a 4 day trip. I left the lights off the entire time and when I came bakc, I had some monsters.

I have noticed this too, the cakes DO need light to pin though.

yeah thnx for the replies i thought i was just trippin lol
there is a few things I would like to know-
my cakes are growing alot of fat asses and i have heard lots of different reasons why they grow like that from to much water and light that comes from all directions. well i sprayed the inside of the fruiting chamber flat black, about 2 days before I birthed the cakes, cuz i read that if i left it white, that i would get at of fat asses. So what is it that really cuasses fat asses? I had a thought that it might be because i use a flouresent light thats as long as the chamber and that flouresent lights dont focus the light, it spreads it more evenly(compared to a "normal" light bulb)..I used it cuz it was free, and cuz it doesnt get to hot so i dont have to worry about starting a fire in my closet lol..do you guys think that i should use a different kind oflight to get rid of the fat asses?? or is there another way?

Its most likely the strain bro.
Could be the PF, (aka Matias Romero) strain which is known to produce fatasses.
Im actually going to post a question about this myself.

IMHO I have noticed that they form more pins in the light, but the pins actually grow faster in the dark. Nothing for sure though, just noticed a lot more pins appearing in the light, but not seeing much growth on the current ones. These are Thai Lamai Beach strain, on pf-tek cakes.
Also about fatarsed shrooms. It could be the strain, but I've also heard it comes from lack of air exchange. I fan mine quite frequently, and refresh the humidity to at least 4 times a day. I have not gotten fat arsed ones since I started fanning and watching closer.
