I'm... not sure you understand the nature of Colbert's show.

Hehe, even more worrying is the fact that maybe you didn't quite understand his sarcasm and liked him before.

Ummm.... I take it you don't know much about Colbert... the "Stephen Colbert" of his show is actually a parody of a right wing pundit. Don't take his style literally, he's actually a comedic genius.

Why on earth are you telling me this?

Did you not understand what I said?

I was referring to the quote,

"I offically dont like Colbert anymore..
At least on that view... haha he called him Stalin.. and communist!!"

telling him that if he is taking the viewpoint seriously, he must not get the joke. Why are you repeating this information to me?

Or did you mean to use the Reply To feature differently?

It was a good episode but sort of preaching to the choir knowing Stephen Colbert's audience.

I'm sure there's tons of people not part of the choir who were watching. Not all of the youth support legalization, by far; in fact, it's probably a minority.

Perhaps a minority of the youth, but I'd be willing to guess that the statistics are a bit higher for daily show/colbert viewers.

The guest on thursday mentioned that an estimated 12% (I believe it was) of the youth today watch the daily show.

If you are ever in a class and learn how to debate, the one thing they will always tell you is how effective it can be to practice debating the other team's side. So just because he acts this way doesn't mean he agrees with it. Nor does it mean, however, that he completely disagrees with it.

I personally have a theory Colbert is pretty middle of the road politically. He is not a ridiculously close-minded right winger, nor is he a bleeding heart liberal who uses 100% sarcasm to discredit the Conservatives... he is a comedian. Look at every one of his interviews, and you'll see that his guests often don't get to say much but rather just provide a backdrop for more silly jokes. When you have an advocate for legalization, what better way to make people laugh than to ask him how high he is?

I saw an interview with Colbert once and they asked him if he let his little children watch the show and he said No. He explained that he didn't want them to get a picture of their father as an insincere person and thus not take him seriously in real life. You hear straight from the horse's mouth that this is all just in the name of comedy

You're certainly right. There are many sarcastic remarks colbert makes about the liberals that are simply shots at them, just as the daily show does. I wouldn't say either is middle ground, certainly strongly left leaning. Jon Stewart said in one interview that they really just enjoy giving the entire system shit.

And having watched the show recently, I would say their main 'enemy', even more so than conservative politicians is the mainstream media. Not only due to conservative bias, but the 99% fluff on the shows. Before cutting to comercials they'll show clips of national news shows downplaying any serious world affairs for dog grooming tips, etc.
