yep, real interesting thing about him. he can hold a whole room in a hypnotic trace w/ his voice but he's so burn he can't even hold a conversation.

Someone else mentioned AcidBath earlier, I believe, and I'd have to agree that Dax is one of the most underrated vocalists of the time. Though, I'm not too much into his work with AcidBath, aside from "Graveflower," "Venus Blue," and 1 or 2 others, I most enjoy his work with Agents of Oblivion and Deadboy. But on another note, there used to be this local band here called Undecided Ritual. I remember listening to the radio and them playing their stuff, but I was too young and too into what was popular at the time to realize how great the vocalist was. Just recently, in fact, I started trying to find music by them since I have a thing for woman vocalists for some reason, and have since found newer stuff by them. They broke up some time ago and the remaining members were going by Noxus for a while, but have broken up yet again. To anyone who wants to take a listen, I've uploaded a clip from one of their songs. You be the judge. http://www.shatteredbeneath.net/clip2.mp3

He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

yeah, you really cant tell his vocal ability in the Acid Bath album.... but in Agents of Oblivion, his ability is apparent.
As burnt out as he is, I still cannot name one other person who can put so much emotion into what they are singing.

I'm gonna have to say Elizabeth Fraser , lead singer of the Cocteau Twins... no voice is more ethereal, surreal , yet so incoherent at the same time.

Huh? Mike Patton has a pretty incredible and verstatile voice. His work with Fantomas and Mr Bungle is insane.
Here's my list
Matt Bellamy (sp?) from Muse The dude from Sigur Ros (no idea what his name is) Mikael (from Opeth) Robert Plant (back in the day) Nick Cave
That's all I got right now.

After re-reading (fine re-skimming..) this post, I saw one name I cannot believe I didn't include.. all the peeps who did remember & listed Serj Tankain know that guy can sing to any genre. An amazing appearance he makes is on the Buckethead album titled Buckethead & Friends - Enter The Chicken. I never heard Serj sound so good as he does on there.. albeit he only has a few tracks, they impact the album more than all other guest vocalists put together.. that dood has got just plain got "it" when it comes to bandwidth of his vocal chords, to hold a note or destroy it.. He even does incoherent black metal barking justice... and when his epic vocal bits come in, i'm definetly put in my place and can merely sing along in my pathetic tone which on a good day is 4-5 octaves off.. thankfully singing backup vocals to his chorus' in my car makes me sound really good..
And i'm still waiting for acknowledgement on Cocteau Twins lead singer.. come on people surely you've nearly wet yourself listening to Lorelei, or Sugar Hiccup.
Oh and also im surprised all but 1 member said Bjork... She's just well.. Bjork.. thats all you can really say, and yet it says it all.

Claudio Sanchez. Not only his range, but the raw emotion.
Now I'll just wait for biased and ignorant comments about Coheed. :-D

You should really listen to the musical aspect of it as well. I guess the only way I can show you is to take my ipod down to the beach and we can shroom again
But without the weird people sexing it up 25 feet from us. That was just...tempting my boner.
But I'll send you a song when I see you online 8=========)
