Questions on "The Psilocybin Producer's Guide"

Found at: http://www.shroomery.org/63/The-Psilocybin-Producers-Guide
My friend read this guide, but is a little confused on a couple points.
The guide basically gives recipes for three substances, Potato Yeast Dextrose Agar (PDA), Potato Dextrose Yeast (PDY) and Malt Extract Agar (MEA). It has you make small amounts of agar , and larger amounts of potato broth. Since the guide is written for someone cultivating a wild strain from a mushroom, I am not sure whether or not the small agar culture would be needed starting with spores.
My Questions: 1) When they talk about preparing the smaller cultures, are they meaning for them to be made from Malt Extract Agar or Potato Yeast Dextrose Agar? They refer to it as an agar solution, but agar is in both substances.
2) Would it be possible to just inoculate a sterile quart jar of potato broth (PDA, PDY?) with spores?
3) The guide describes a methanol extraction for an already potent does. Would there be any reason not to skip this?

That guide is completely bunk. Don't bother with anything in it.
Trying to extract actives from liquid culture is a waste of time. You will only get a tiny bit of myc from each jar and it will have very low potency.
Liquid cultures range from zero to about .5% psilocybin. Actual mushrooms range from around .75% to 2.0%.
So you will only end up with a tiny bit of end product and it will be well less than a third as potent as actually growing mushrooms. It's an incredible waste of time, materials, and energy.
Even growing PF jars in vitro would be many times more effective in terms of labor, materials, and end product.
We really need to delete bogus guides like this from the shroomery so that people aren't led astray. Think how pissed someone would be if they actually spent all that time and money growing almost 3000 jars, as this guide suggests, only to be left nearly empty-handed.

It's bunk, FOR SURE. Years back. I did a 5 gallon carboy batch. Along those lines.

Wow agar, leave it to you to grow mycelium in a martini!

Good psilovybin extraction techniques found here. It mentions the Psilocybin producers guide in here. It also explains that methenol is not the best solvent to use for extraction. I would rather go with ethenol.
I believe they calim that methenol takes allot longer to extract psilocybin then ethenol.
