aucklandii cultivation?
    #644171 - 05/24/02 10:26 PM (21 years, 6 months ago)

Hi, has anyone here had any success with cultivation of the aucklandii strain?
As it only fruits in cold weather (around the time of the first frost) is there a technique I could adapt to its requirements....?
Also, what are my chances of a successful spore print from the wild?
As New Zealand customs are quite proficient at blocking these sorts of things ;]

Id assume they would grow using a similar technique to Subaeruginosa - try using spawned or colonised woods to spawn some woods in a jar = or transfer some live tissue to peroxidated agar...
Hey ill pm you about that ASAP!

I dont think aucklandii actually grows on wood, Ive never seen it. Its a general rule round here 'never on wood'........ ;]

I could be wrong - in Stamets it says that Psilocybe Aucklandii grows 'scattered to gregarious on soil rich in woody debris and litter beneath Leptospermum and Dacrydium and in pine (pinus radiata) plantations.'
What kind of substrates have you found these on??

usually clay rich soil, on a slope, and esp. in the vicinity of a stream... always amongst pine needles, ive heard that this increases the acidity of the substrate which seems to be essential...
Where did you find this stamet article? Ive been trying to determine ideal settings but theyre so unpredictable....
anyways ill pm you bout that ;]

Next time you find them when you pick the fruits - see what it attached to the stem - the mycelia may be attached to wood fragments of some description - possibly pine needles

yup this is what happens... ive seen pics of people with (natural) substrate in jars, and growing it from there, is this all they do? just bring some wild mycelium home and give it some humidity? hmm. sounds like a good idea ;]
