Cultivation of Inocybe aeruginascens?

Does anybody have ANY information on cultivation of this amazing species?

Sorry to start a new thread on this but I think it's a very discussion worthy topic.

i think this fungi requires a symbiosis, according to Joshen Gartzs. i also recall hearing about spore and tissue culture being done with success.

Workman has informed me that all Inocybe species are mycorrhizal in nature.

So it looks like cultivation would not be easy. Anybody know what trees it grows with?

i thought they were mycorrhizal, i bet you could tissue culture this species. maybe try a spore solution and hardwood seedlings, anythings worth a try?

Yep, inocybes are mycorrhyzal chances are you will need a tree to get them to fruit.

Poplar or willow?

:cool: Both of those species grow really fast and willow for sure roots quickly from cuttings.

Poplar being amazingly easy to fruit off any old wood chips...Unlike the species in question....

I heard Gartz says the Inocybe experience gives a somewhat different quality of experience compared to most other psilocybin mushrooms.

I would be somewhat skeptikal when I see the molecule. It's a quaternary ammonium salt, will that be able to pass the blood-brain barrier?

EDIT: Whoops, posted too fast, just read the answer in the paper Fastfred posted: it won't.

i´ve read a few trip reports in German and the trippers claimed that the trip with aeruginascens was their best trip ever!

the cultivation seems nearly impossible but i saw a lot of things which seemed impossible!

well, it's not supposed to cross the blood brain barrier, but who fuckin knows, right?

i live in florida and i'm pretty sure that those grow all over the place down here.

i don't think they grow on trees, i think they grow in ground where dead trees where previously.

i don't know, they resemble a lot of other mushrooms, and those that they resemble are quite a selection of poisonous ones, so i have no idea.

Unless you're very capable with a microscope and have extensive knowledge in the area of ID, I wouldn't try to use an Inocybe collected in the wild. Too dangerous.

I don't think so. They are widely distributed but rare.

I know I'm bumping a month-old thread here, but it would be great if this puppy didn't die yet. I just heard word of this species and am extremely interested in it... I wonder if you can purchase spores anywhere?

Imagine growing a DMTree (newly coined term by yours truly) and having some of those bad boys feeding off the roots...

Bumping a very old thread in light of the myceliated grain threads. And maybe the sclerotia/blue pearl thread based on this paper. Or vice versa, depending on whether or not the aeruginascin is expressed in the mycelia and/or sclerotia. So even if you can't actually fruit it, you still might be able to harvest some of the aeruginascin. Given that another paper I can't find at the moment indicates that Inocybe does not have significant psilocybin in the mycellia, I am guessing the aeruginascin would be the same since I am guessing they fill the same role, but the presence of blue sclerotia sounds enticing.

I can't access the rest of the paper, though. Still, if someone ever stumbles across one and gets some spores or tissue samples, then maybe this can be of interest. If nothing else, blue pearls? Inquiring minds need to know!

I've got 50 posts to rack up and I don't want to spam.

My point here is species also produces a related psychoactive compound to psilocybin and baeocystin that is more prevalent in other species. Since it is one of those that only fruits when it has a mycorrhizal relationship with certain trees. So no indoor cultivation. However, according to the paper cited, it does produce greenish-blue sclerotia in a surface culture.

Which offers some possibilities. If this has been explored here or anywhere else over the intervening decades while you have been pumping out kids, I apologize. Noob, you know.

I am surprised they got the spores to germinate on MEA.  Inocybe insignis spores did not germinate for me.  Looks like it only produced psilocybin with the special media, which isn't surprising.

I was able to read it pretty easily with the Google lens app on my phone, translate feature.

It would be a good idea to clone fresh material.

I am surprised that they said that it grows quickly - usually mycorrhizal species grow very slowly on agar.

It is a Gartz paper so I would take it with a grain of salt.

Thanks for the link. High school german was a long time ago, but with scientific terms works surprisingly well. And I appreciate hearing about your experience with the spores. Zero spore or agar experience as of yet.
