OK....so time to get into shape :) (food, exercise Q's)

So I seem to keep reading different things pertaining to healthy living that just contradict each other
Could be the sources, just hype, or whatever.
Anyway, I've been a pretty out of shape and overweight slob for some time now
I'm short and have always been pretty stocky......as it is right now I'm 5'4" and about 220 pounds.
Beer and pot play a big roll into this plus a pretty sedentary lifestyle. (cut pot down to weekends as with beer)
So, I'm looking to change this. Alter my way of living. And get my ass into shape!
......
So where can i find some info that cuts through the hype and bullshit? Just some facts.
Obviously, eat better. Exercise.
So far I've been just cutting out fried foods, processed stuff. All the junk.
In order to not be hungry while doing this, I sort of 'graze' most of the day in between breakfast and dinner. Snacking on fruits/veggies and such.
Also trying to cut the portion size of dinner a bit (used to that big ass comfort food greasy meal )....
And finally not eating junk or much of anything before sleep.
......
Now the exercise part.
I have no idea where to start
I'm thinking of 3 days week of aerobic/calisthenic workout...starting slow and working up to one hour sessions.
Light lifting on the off days.
Some push-ups and sit-ups everyday.
Any input would be great, though. As this is all uncharted waters for me
Thanks

I lost 50 lbs by cutting back on beer... Stock up on CLIF bars too. They are pretty good, healthy and they seem to stop any hunger pangs. Also, drink a fuckton of water during the day!
If you want to work out, go spend $50 at WalMart or whatever on some cheap weights. Stick to the basics until you get in the habit of working out. Gym memberships are great, but only if you go 4-5 times a week and get your money's worth!
I am trying to get back into shape sooner or later... I'm just lazy, and I always find something else to do to avoid the gym.

Yea.....beer.
Im thinking when i do go out to drink, that i'll stick to liquor.
Screwdrivers vs Beer.
Vodka has no calories/carbs.....where beer has tons. Right?

hahaha... uh no. Alcohol contains the calories, so there is no avoiding it unless you drink just water. Plus, alcohol slows you down and makes you retain more calories or something like that... If you seriously want to lose weight, and help your fatty liver, just give up the booze... or at least cut back to only 2 or 3 "drinks" per session... "drink" = beer, shot, wine OR screwdrivers.

"hunger paings" come from eating right when you wake up, or your stomach being used to that, so when you dont eat when youre used to it hurts. Wait an hour or two after waking up to eat, then throughout the day it wont hurt like that if u dont eat right then. Drink EMERGEN'c vitamin mix. You know believe it or not, one of the best aerobic exercises is dancing and singing. If youve got some tunes you really like sit there and dance and sing to them for an hour and youll have sweated alot. You have to be INTO it though, using all your energy. You could try to fast (with the help of lsd?) then your stomach will start to shrink, so youre not so hungry. Go hiking, ride a bike. ride a bike. Research things that you can do to speed up your metabolism. (i know its hard working and getting your body controlled) It would be best accomplished if you could take a week or 2 off. The more of your food you make (dont fry it) the more you can know youre eating good. So make some sandwhiches. Eat whole foods, like potatoes, vegatbales, etc..
-------------------- God says dance with your heart And shake free of you desire Where theres a will theres always a way When you get confused listen to the music play

Just droppin' the booze, cleaning up any fast food or real binge eating and then going into a small calorie deficit (as low as 200-300 cals) is plenty to start losing weight. Toss in a bit of cardio and start slowing cleaning your diet up a bit more, balancing macro nutrients more and more, and the fat will just slide right off.
I've helped turn PUDGY ass friends into pretty lean monsters just from having them commit. Cut out soda, sugars and uneccesary shit like hydrogenated oils and deep friend dog shit and you look and feel sexellent.

I use one of these things, it works well. It's cheap and it gets my muscles sore fast. Gets the blood flowing too. I put it somewhere I have to walk past every day so I end up using it a lot. I've never bought anything from www.bodybuilding.com, I can't say how great their service is but they are selling these things dirt cheap.
EDIT: Nevermind, the stupid cord broke on me. Cheap peice of shit.

Hardest part is getting down a routine that you stick with.
It's easy to get really motivated one day (like u probably were when you posted this) and then go and work-out till you drop, but to keep it going 3-5 days a week takes discipline. I find it's really easy to just stop.
I've had excercise spurts in the past that always fizzled out but I've been rocking now for almost 6 months and I don't have the slightest worries about falling out of it. Weight-lifting and cardio-endurance excercise is part of me now. I'm at the gym atleast 10 hours a week pushing myself to my physical and spiritual limits.
Anyways back to my point, If I were you starting out I wouldnt be too concerned about the most effecient work-out methods, I'd start really simple and see if you can keep it going. Jog a few blocks every day, do sit-ups, push-ups, and squats. body-weight stuff, until you fatigue.
Personally I think half of the reason i've stuck with it is cuz I go to the gym, where there is nothing to do BUT work-out.. its really hard to work-out at home because of all the distractions... food, entertainment, couches, etc...
I dunno man, it's a journey, good luck

Yes, I agree. That was always a problem in the past when I would give a half-hearted attempt at getting into shape...... a couple days of doing good, then BAM. Fall into the old routines.
My motivation is my life this time around though.
What spurred this, was, the fact and realization that im getting older now. While im still only 25,but this is not how a 25 year old should be living. And it WILL effect me in a very negative manner not too far down the road.
Also a serious lack of pussy! A good motivator(however superficial), if ive ever heard one...... hehe.
So far so good though.
Im actually counting calories now. And looking back at all the crap i would normally eat vs the healthy foods ive stocked my kitchen with now, the difference is AMAZING.
Ive gone from 3000+ calories of crap food per day to 1000-1500calories plus exercise!! That should greatly help in the weight loss, me thinks.

Awesome!
Don't ever get discouraged if and when the fatloss slows down too. It's good to build a solid foundation and work at things a little bit at a time. If you can stay disciplined easily, you'll reap the fruits of your labor sooner than you anticipated. And it's definitely not the end of the world like people see it.
