The word shamanism is so unique. People of the US see it as almost a drug person. Do you have a local shaman? I'm sure we all do. Besides the fact still stands that taking mushrooms, marijuana, natural occuring substances that have not been altered extremely and such, will in fact give you the ability to understand the earth and what we are doing on this massive circle and to it.

I don't trust anyone who claims to be a Shaman.

I think that this is the key point of the post that needs to be addressed, the course for discussion and all that.
I don't necessarily think that usage of psychadelics on their own act to provide for much of any understanding. It is certainly to be regarded as an opportunity for a greater experience of reality and to develop more understanding, but set and setting is what is truly responsible for the psychadelic experience.

I always think of the scenes of movies where parachutists jump from a plane. One of them is always out of order and the shamanist one reaches him while falling down and finally he saves him .

After thinking long and hard on the topic (the question that I entirely missed).
I do not know of any local shamans, and I am but a wanna-be shaman.
Some of the things I talk about, try to educate others with, and certain hobbies are (to me) very shamanic.
I've been known to pray to "God", and praise the "mother" too. I believe in a higher power, and believe it is everything. I know not what religion I should say that I am because there is not one that I fully embrace.
If you're third eye is SO extremely open that you have spoken with dead ancestors...and you do that on a regular basis... I would call you a shaman (Native American shamanism).
I think that the multitude of different shamanic beliefs is partly what debuffs "shamanism" as a religion. However, shamanism itself originated thousands of years ago in nearly every part of this world.
People have been using their "third eye" for a long time; it is unfortunate that there are laws that try to prevent this from ever occuring. If more people were able to step back and take a look at the big picture things would change drastically.
I hope for to much, and I'm not enough of an activist to even begin to complain...so...I will end my post with this.
