Maybe I'll Get Lucky (4 1/2 Syringes)
    #643121 - 05/24/02 11:09 AM (16 years, 6 months ago)

Ok, so today I was finally able to get some needles for the 10cc syringes I had. I only had 4x10cc and 1 3cc. I started making the syringes, but I ran into some problems. There was a sticker holding the folded foil closed...and I couldn't get it off without handling the print a lot. When I finally had it almost open the foil ripped and spores spilled out...so I tried to get as many off as I could into the bowl I was using. I had to leave the bowl uncovered for a long time while I tried to get the spores into it...I think this might also cause problems later on.

I'm hoping the way I did it is ok also...

I boiled about a cup of water in a small pot for about 10 minutes...then I started sucking it into the syringe and emptying it into a cup. Then I did it again and left the water in and capped it and put in in the fridge to cool down. I did this with all 5 syringes. While I was doing this I found a small glass bowl and filled it with water and covered it in plastic wrap and poked a small hole in the top with a syringe tip. I put this in the microwave until all the water had been boiled off. I took the bowl out and let it cool, then peeled back a piece of the plastic covering and tried to dump the print in (see problems above). Then I took the now cool syringes and emptied it into the bowl and sucked it back up one at a time. The first two are _very_ dark with tons of large chunks of spores, the last 3 have noticeable clumps but not nearly as dark. I forgot to add...In between steps I wiped down the tips with 70% rubbing alcohol.

Anyway...does that process sound reasonably sterile? I'm thinking I should have boiled the water longer...but oh well...I might just buy a syringe or two instead.

Yeah that sounds fine to me.

Donno if I just live in a "sterile" enviornment or not, but I dont even go that far and havent had problems.
