oatmeal in casing???

i dont remember where i read it but somewhere i read that putting oatmeal in the casing helps with faster col and pinning
i have no clue though so if anybody can help me that would be great
i just want to try new things im gettin bored with the same ol same ol

and if you can put it in there do you sterilize it pastureize it soak it or boil it
has anybody tried this??? is there a tek for it???
not as a replacement for anything but as an additive

I guess that that would invite contams, wouldn't it?
I never tried casing but i know it is supposed to be a non nutritive layer which serves only to provide moisture to the developing mushrooms.

You really dont want an additive or nutritional suppliment in your casing.

Not only no, but hell no! Go for it and I bet it will fail 99.99% of the time. If you have any uncolonized moist matter that contains any nutrients ( i.e. Oalmeal ) bacteria will flourish. The casing layer is only there to provide moisture to the colonized substrate. Even under normal conditions you can lose a casing to contams. I would hate to see what happens when you add nutrients to the layer. Good Luck!
