seriously though, deep subconscious thoughts are a very powerful force, and if you can bridge that gap totally through effective meditation, ie: enlightenment, then you are a very spiritual person, for the vast majority however, entheogenic induced ego transcendment might be the more viable possibility for the spiritually curious....

I utilize the subconscious (as opposed to the deep unconscious) whenever I hypnotize someone (I am a Diplomate in Clinical Hypnotherapy with the NBCCH
[ see www.natboard.com ]). I also teach psychoeducation material to middle school kids in which I show them subliminal messages in magazine ads, and even on textbook covers! This also brings awareness of subconscious processes. Yawn around people, or even mention yawning several times in a group, and you will have people yawn - by the power of suggestion. Begin to notice so-called Freudian slips-of-the-tongue - subconscious processes.

The subconscious can, for example, when accessed, control both bodily and mental functions that the conscious mind cannot. Anaesthesia can be produced. Simple 'glove anaesthesia' whereby one's hand feels insensitive like one is wearing a leather glove is easy; so is a 'magic circle' on the arm of a child who is afraid of injections at the doctors. An average person can be made so rigid through subconscious processes, that they can have their ankles and neck supported, and one could (if it weren't bad for their back) sit on their stomach w/o the body sagging. No athlete or gymnast could do that by mere willpower. Under hypnosis, limb amputations can be painless and the subject's subconscious can be asked not to allow the amputation to bleed. The limb's arteries constrict. Documented for over 100 years by pioneers James Braid and James Esdaile. Incidentally, only in what we call 'hypnotic coma,' or 'the Esdaile state' are subjects so preoccupied by bliss that they do not respond to outer events.They are not 'un-conscious.' Consciousness has receded and the subconscious is in control. Hope this answers your question somewhat.
