Perlite vs. wire mesh

In the Tek method it uses a wire mesh on the bottom of the terrarium and on others it talks about using perlite. My jars are about 75% colonized so I need to start thinking about these things. Which method is best? Does anyone have experience using both methods??

Also, is it better (if using Perlite) to have the cakes sit directly on the Perlite or should they be on jar lids on top of Perlite?

I've only just birthed my first cake 2 days ago and it's sitting on a plastic container lid.

seems to say that you can put your cakes directly on perlite, though from what I've read here most people don't.

Which TEK method are you talking about?

You should either put the cakes on top of wire mesh or a plastic lid. If you put too much water into your perlite and then put the cakes on the perlite they will not grow out as well.

The Tek method I am using is the Magic Mushrooms Growing Guide v3.2 which is listed on this site.

Your gonna need some form of humidity.

the easiest is perlite.

you can use perlite and have a wire mesh to keep the cakes off the perlite.
or you can use perlite and leave the cakes on the jarlids or alum foil.

or you can do away with perlite and use a cool mist humidifier.
