Grow little buddies, grow! (updated -w- harvest pics)

Stared out with this
50/50 hpoo/straw spawned with rye grain. 2 inch sub depth. Cased with 45/45/10 peat/verm/high cal limestone.
Placed into the setup
FAE provided by the cool-mist. Ultrasonic output controlled via a variable timer switch. Humidity maintained at 99% until pins began to form. Then allowed to lower and maintain at 80-85. Now back into the high 90's cause pins are set.
UPDATE:
Things turned out well. The top tub finished 12-24 hrs ahead of the bottom tub, I would guess this is due to temperature differences. I would have liked to have seen more shroom coverage in some of the trays, I really tryed hard to get the casing perfect. I guess a lot of it comes down to what the shrooms want to do. Here's pics:
Just before pulling the trays out:
All lined up, they're yelling "Please don't pick us rahz!":
Said a little thank you and picked those suckers:
I'm trying a few new things here. I kept some casing soil and baked it last night. Seems much easier to apply dry casing soil when patching. Trays are going back in the setup, and will be rehydrated by turning the ultrasonic up for a day or two.
Does anyone care for a detailed writeup on how I built this setup? Total cost is in the $250+ range for all materials. Good thing is, once you add the colonized trays, all you have to do is keep an eye on them and turn some knobs occationally to adjust RH. Ultrasonic only needs a refil every week or so.
This is my first real Hpoo grow, so I'm curious to see what kind of second flush I'll get. Haven't weighed this flush, I'm thinking it's around 7-9 lbs wet. Will post dry weight when I get it.

Well, most people seem to prefer the smaller sized spores. These here are better for viewing cause you don't have to take turns at the microscope. What appears to be the large microscope is, in fact, a high tech spore expansion device.

bump for the update.
Out of curosity, I have a huge pile of stem clippings, covered in peat and verm. Has anyone ever done an alcohol extraction on something like that? I just hate to throw it away.

Looks like a real nice, clean setup. I look foreward to knowing what you get for a dry weight.

Haven't got dry weight yet, just picked them.
So the dehydrator is full, these are waiting.
I think I can have the first batch dry in about 6-8 hours. Will it be ok if these shrooms are sitting out for up to 12-16 hours? It will take 3, possibly 4 batches to get them dry. Need to buy more trays.

Yes they should be fine to leave alone for such a short period of time, put them in front of a fan if you would like to go the extra mile but its not needed,I have sometimes had to due that and the bruise sometimes even bluer than usual, like someone drew on them almost,They look great

you could probably dry shrooms by simply leaving them out in the open...but this would take a pretty long time like upwards to a week.

Not if you put them in front of a fan. Couple days would do it for sure.

you should definately put a fan on those. it will save you alotof time. youd be suprised how well just a fan works.
also, your setup could be had for ALOT less that $250.

Detailed writeup on the way, I'll send you (and any anyone else who wants one) a PM when it's posted. My ego is proud of it, but mostly it started out as this crazy idea that I couldn't avoid once I started thinking about it. This is my main hobby at the moment, and I've immensley enjoyed building it and watching things happen inside it. I believe it does have advantages over a martha, though it is more expensive and take a bit more work to assemble. Anyway, I'm glad a few of you guys are intrested.
In reply to another poster, it's possible that the unit could be built for less than the 250 I quoted (I think my cost was around 280). The tubs I used were $55 for all four. Kind of expensive, but they fit the bill. The timer was about $90, and I wouldn't want to skimp on that. Beyond that, you would be suprised at how everything adds up. Either way, 280 isn't much for a hobby that has provided me with so much entertainment (in more ways than one)

no doubt. im sure ive spent thousands.
for a beginner 250 would seem like alot. all i was saying is that one could have what you have for less than 250.

I'm sure that I don't even want to know how much I have spent But its all investment, not expense,Once you have all you need you don't have to spend anything else except to replace your substrate, casing material and spawn,I swear its been quite some time since Ive needed to buy anything with the exception of rye and coir

same with me not having to buy anything... then you get to spend your money on things like a ph tester!
as for casing mix on shrooms... Digest that shit. it doesn't hurt. i eat casing mix on a regular basis.

Dry weight was 277 grams.
I believe I can get a 1 pound flush out of this thing. Next grow I'll use 3 inch subs. Cloning would be ideal, I'm ordering my first agar kit.
Still, very satisfying flush.
