I didn't know that.
I think that if the court takes into consideration the validity of all pre-mentioned documents then they would have to nullify his sentence.
If the judge doesn't judged scrictly by law but by what outcome he personally desires then he will likely sentence him, because if he gets off then everyone will know they can do the same and might try it. Of course, they'd only be able to try it within the timeframe of this particalr war, unless the US starts another which can also be deemed to be illegal - as that is his only doorway out of punishment.

Doing something you don't feel strongly about, just for the financial benefits...

So you don't believe in the war, yet you're calling this guy a pussy for not fighting in it? I don't understand... And yeah some people join the military JUST for the money and don't want to get killed in war. Oh my god big shock.

its not just for the financial benefits.. serving in the military is something held extremely sacred in my family, more so than religion (sadly).. i consider it an honor to be able to serve my country.. even if that means having to fight for her in a war i dont 100% agree with.

I could never go against my principles in a situation that might put me in a situation to murder for something I don't believe in.

Well I don't see how anyone is 'serving' the US by murdering insurgents and innocent human beings in Iraq, halfway across the world, but yeah.. good luck with that.

for me its not going against my principals.. i have served in jail (not for long, 5 months) however that time showed me the difference between freedom and being oppressed..
again.. i feel like it would be honorable to serve my country and to help uphold freedoms that people will continue to take for granted until they are put in a position where they are taken away.

ok.. you dont have to agree with the war, thats not what the debate is about..
the debate is about a guy, who voluntarily signed up for the army, took their money and training, AFTER we invaded a country, knowing he could get called to duty.. and then once he gets called up.. he decides NO, this isnt right.
you support that?

Yes. I support people refusing to go to war. Especially people in the military, they get extra respect, since it takes extra balls.

No, I am not a fucking moron.
He also enlisted knowing he has free will and can say FUCK YOU to the military if they want him to needlessly die for them.
Anyone who blindly goes over there is the moron, not me for saying right on to the people that want to live.

Sounds fun.
Also, I thoroughly enjoy the army-mcdonald's analogy.

You're targeting the wrong enemy. A civil war is in order to keep your freedoms from evaporating. THAT I'd support.
