Oysters (sea creature), a poll and some questions
    #6422936 - 01/03/07 11:20 PM (14 years, 4 months ago)

Well im looking for some 'tasting notes' on raw oysters. It is probably as indepth as wine tasting, but i can't seem to find any online guides.

I hate GOOGLE

Ive only tasted a few raw oysters, and they were not that bad. I saw some fat ones the other day that i really wanted to try, but i want to know more about them.

Im far from a wine connoisseur, but i do know my way around a wine store. I can If you get my analogy. Im looking to, at the least, try to be the same with oysters.
Do you eat oysters?
You may choose only one
Yes, raw oysters
only if they are cooked

I LOVE raw oysters on the half shell. I don't know much about different types though. But I take full advantage if I'm at a decent restaurant anywhere near an ocean.

i personally can't stand raw oysters.. .not the taste, but the texture... they get about to my adam's apple and come right back up.

good types of oysters for eating raw on the half-shell, though.. from my kitchen experience:

kumamoto
beau soleil (sp?)
malpec

i have no idea where you live, but your best bet is to find the best fish market you can in your area.. ask them what they have that is super fresh and good for eating raw...

for serving w/ oysters.. simple sauces highlighting vinegar flavors work really well.

i've only had em raw. they're alright, a little too salty for me. reminds of getting a mouthful of salt waters sometimes. don't know too much about them though, i'm hardly an oyster afficianado

Oysters are a new seafood to me, but I liked them very much.
It's interesting to know that there's tasting practises much like wine tasting.

seafood in general... :drooling:
