i walk outside this morning to find some lil shrooms in my mulch.
i looked a specimen over thouroghly and used Stamets' PMOTW book to ID them. Definite Pholiotina.
just posting to show there's some killer (not good killer but DEADLY) ones still out.
here's a picture i found on Google of Pholiotina filaris.

The mushroom is actually conocybe filaris. the name was changed decades ago in the 1970s\
Here is a good image of Concybe filaris,
Also Mycoguy and I saw a few on a lawn in the u-village a few years back.
This image below was photographed in the Freeway Park in downtown Seattle in 1977.
Can anyone see the face in the background center of the image, a tree wood spirit, perhaps a druid watching over the sacred shrooms.
An untouched photo scanned form the original fading foto. See the face in the center of the image in the background near the top center region.
mj
btw, Conocybe cyanopus use to be known at one time as Pholiotina cyanopoda. But only one book in the 1970s listed it as such, but also listed Conocybe cyanopus as a separate species.

That does look a lot like them from what I can tell. I don't remember actually finding any of those in my area, but they are talked about in a lot of mushroom literature. I'm over on the east coast though. Interesting find. Thanks for sharing that.

actually mjshroomer i saw more of these at the u-village a few days ago under some shrubs.
just trying to spread the knowledge that deadly shrooms can be quite common if the conditions are right.
Rusty brown spore print, very small caps and the tell-tale collarlike membranous annulus are easy ways to identify and avoid this mushroom.
two more pics from a different angle, i might upload one more pic if i take some more during the day. these night pics arent focusing very well.
safe hunting everyone
p.s. thanks MJ for your input on this thread and the P. stuntzii find thread.

Rgarding Paul, Read my reply in the P. cyanofriscosa thread. But about paul, I first broght to his attanetion several references in his books, expecially in Mushroom Cultivator with wrong page numbers, mistaken 2nd and or third authors and such and they have never been changed or corrected because of the cost of printing and changing a pages fonts and typesets.
It cost too much money, hence the never corrected foto of P. cyanofibrilosa labeled as P. cyanescens in the David Arora Mushrooms Demystified book.
