Well, people, what has the PAL forum done for you in 2006?
    #6411922 - 12/30/06 10:03 PM (17 years, 3 months ago)

I just wanted to start a thread in regards, to the many discussions (or you can call it flameless disagreements) that has taken place within this forum for 2006. Has any particular thread challenged your political views? Or strengthen them? Does any one find this forum challenging to ones own intellect? Please insert any valid viewpoint that may have changed, or strengthen your views..........I will add based on the interest of this thread.......and to all:

"HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!"

Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

I've somewhat distanced myself from this forum over the past year, due to being tired of debating the same old shit, sometimes with people who have very hostile personalities.

Is it then the general consensus, that conservatives or people with conservative views, drive away the liberal thinkers? Are you saying that their very view stops you from debating???????

Not their views. It's more the debating style of certain people, combined with topics that have been discussed to death, as well as my own general waning interest in politics and growing disinterest in defending my views against those who will never get it.

That's funny. I don't think I have seen a total of one hour of the Hannity and Colmes show. I've seen more of Alex Jones. Hannity drives me nuts and Colmes more so. Do you bother to read my posts at all?

Personally, it has gradually shaped my politics into becoming entirely centrist libertarian.

I've always loved PA&L. I continue to learn a lot here. This may be the only place where I actually have my liberal views challenged by serious thinkers, and realize how much of popular leftist ideas are based on assumptions that we often don't analyze.

Not that I am becoming more right wing, I just have a more open mind and hate the DNC more and more.

True though that PAL sometimes goes through some long droughts in which no one seems to be able to think of anything new to debate.

But anyway heres to everyone who frequents PAL and takes debate seriously, happy new years and I look forward to antagonizing mud-slinging in 2007 as we approach the next election year

So the answer to the question is........"Mommy, zappa was mean to me."

I'll answer the question. It has given immense amusement and caused me to learn how to search the 'net for facts contrary to or ignored by the main stream media, an overwhelmingly left wing creation. For instance, there was not one single thing in the press about the fake photography and casualty shit from Lebanon. But it was there and the guy was quietly fired and his entire catalog deleted from Reuter's files. Fisk's friend, I think. And his buddy, the famous AP source "police captain" Jalil Hussein. Or something like that. Still can't find the guy. No doubt kidnapped. By the US black ops. To discredit the AP. Yep works for me.

Thanks Red, if there is anything that one can take away, wouldn't it be loyal opposition? Even if you despise the USA, isn't it a gift to post ones mind?????????

And please, for my curiosity, there has been not even one political view changed here????....or even challenged?????????

It has reminded me that politics is not the way to remake society.

Most people do not think, they feel. They feel and rationalize later without ever recognizing their motivations. So appeals to reason are usually a big waste of time.

I plan to  spend less time here and more time working directly with individuals to make life better in some small way for everyone.

Happy 2007 to each of you!  :sun:

I figure my political views fluctuate, I used to be a very ardent conservative but ive become disillusioned with party politics from the left or right.

If someone argues with me and i think their argument is logical and not emotional driven bleeding heartness ill consider their views and compare them to my own.

This government to me I think is of absolute ineptness and micromanagement, Our government is being ran more like a failing business then anything else, And now Bush is recieving bad ratings you can see all his buddies jump off the sinking ship thats Iraq.

Any intelligent person can show you that the congress and especially the party in power has took us down a path of failure and ineptitude, from Katrina to Iraq to Special Interest groups, SS reform, Failure to catch Osama, Orwellian named legislation like Patriot Act and Healthy Forests or Clean Skies acts.

The democrats are a party of complete inaction and the only thing they can do is criticise, but when it comes straight down to it the Democrats will not to jackshit to fix Bush's problem fearing they may go down with the mess in Iraq.

The problem with this country is our 2 Week attention span, and the ignorance of this country towards world culture in a world with globalization, Important news events fall off the radar and conflicts of interest in the present administration completely ignored, I never was a conspiracy theorist but i find myself becoming one now.

For me, the biggest revelation was Iraq.

Although I did agree with the war, it has been increasingly apparent that the strategy has swindled down to nothing. Putting guys on the front lines (if you can even call it that, since this is no conventional war) with out giving the military its operational freedom needed for victory, is bullshit. As a disabled veteran from this era, it was quite the tough pill to swallow. You would think that engagements such as Korea and Vietnam would lend some historical knowledge to the powers that be, however, here again, this is not the case. The only thing that I espouse for now, is taking care of the men and women that had nothing to do with the mismanagement of the war, but yet are scared for life due to their injuries. I hope there will be more awareness to this fact, then the way veterans have been treated in the past.

It is funny how much the Republicans seem to take right out of 1984. PATRIOT Act, Clear Skies Act, it would be almost comical if so many people weren't so fucking stupid all the time.

My viewpoint hasn't been changed here, but experiences of both myself and my friends with the government have been nothing but negative in 2006, further reinforcing my hatred of our fascist bureaucracy we call a "democracy". It's a democracy reinforced by snitches and hatred of the minority, if it's one at all anymore.

PAL has really given me some perspective over the past year.

I used to be really naive. I began studying economics because I thought enough research and statistical analysis could eventually light the way forward.

Instead I've learned that the rhetoric, on both sides, is so overwhelmingly thick that its going to take something more. Study after study proves that socialism doesn't work, so what does the left say? Let's give it a try anyway. Then study after study shows that longer prison sentences don't really deter crime effectively (when compared with other factors), and what does right say? Let's give them a try anyway...

I hope that 2007 will help me find a better solution...
