Generally vendors would be struggling to break even, let alone 'employ 'someone

I would have to disagree with you on that one bluemeanie. Many vendors have hired help.

not bad for a part time hobby, but I don't know about as a profession.
If they make $1000 a month and work 160 hours, that's $6.25 an hour and about $2.50 per week.
If that's before taxes then, I don't know. I guess it kind of depends on their local cost of living.

Ryche Hawk told me back in 1999 (in the chat room, when i still used to frequent this site a lot and moderated the cultivation forum) that he was making $120,000 a year. That's over $2300 a week.
Now ya figure the customer base has increased 2-3 fold since then, but the # of vendors has increased as well. My guess is the top-selling vendors bring in around $150,000 a year at least, and the "less successfull" ones more in the area of $30,000-$50,000 depending...
Don't fool yourselves, this is BIG business... This isn't about "helping people" (though you may deem it as such), but instead it is about turning a profit. Think of all the repeat-customers these vendors receive in the syringe-selling dept. alone... If a customer buys 3 syringes from a vendor every quarter, that's an average of $120 from a single customer every year. Not EVERYBODY does this, some people buy less, and some people buy more (yes there are people that purchase upwards of 5-8 syringes at a time).
Prints are purchased for $3 TOPS wholesale by the vendors. 1 print makes a minimum of 5 syringes (cost of syringe = $1 apiece TOPS), so you figure the vendor spends $8, sells each syringe for an average of $10, and nets a $42 MINIMUM profit from a single spore print.
beat it on down the line... camel

Camel,
Do you work for a living?
How much do you make?
Are you jealous?
Some of the Vendors have people working for them....you left that part out. Then they have overhead and expenses too.
I make more than most of these Vendors and I'm retired. I live off the interest of my stocks and bonds....and I'm only 42. Been retired for a little over 4 years now.
There is nothing wrong with trying to make a living....as long as you don't fuck people over. Just because the Vendors chose this line of work doesn't make them so called bad people....I really doubt that any of the Vendors here are bad people. If they didn't enjoy the line of work they are doing....I'm sure they would find other employment....I know I would.
You couldn't pay me enough to be a Vendor...there is just no way. The amount of crap these people have to put up with is just fucking amazing!!!! I have to give them credit for dealing with people that want their shit now kind of attitude....it doesn't work like that out in the really real world! I know....I did Goverment contracts! I had thought of opening a Spore business several months ago....that idea was short lived. I can build better web sites than 3/4 of these Vendors and do my own html, graphics, flash....etc. I also had 6 growers interested in a Co-op marketing plan....I backed out. I ran a very successful business for over 10 years. I don't want to be in business.....I want to enjoy life and chill....and watch my children grow up.
and about this statement : "Prints are purchased for $3 TOPS wholesale by the vendors." I'll reword that : Prints are purchased for $3 TOPS from wholesaler's by the Vendors. and that statement is true of some Vendors. I know cause I was offered that by 4 Vendors myself....lolz And I have been approached by at least 6 Vendors.....and several wanna be future Vendors. Hell I checked into selling my spores to a local head shop....they were interested! I'll say this....if a wholesaler is stupid enough to grow for Vendors for that price he is a fucking Idiot. The Wholesaler is the one taking the risk in most cases....not the Vendor. Oh and if your a Vendor and want my spores....don't bother asking me!
Basically now.....I just enjoy my hobby.....and don't sweat this crap.
~End of my rambling~

and no im not jealous, merely stating facts. im all about capitalism, minus the devious demeanor in which it can sometimes operate (my main grudge with some of the vendors here)
