My fire ants still love water beds. That is a very nice incubator though.

alot of people turn the jars upside to get the bottom part of the cake to colonize the reason - CO2

CO2 is necessary and speeds up colonisation of the substrate.

no not yet let them it go through the substrate as normal (the way you innoculated them) if/and when it appears to be slowing down then turn them upside down - you'll be amazed how quick it completely colonizes

About flipping jars.....
I flip them about 10days after innoculation regardless of whats going on in the jar....
if i dont see anything usually by 14 days I toss them anyways
Flipping does increase colonization speed but can open you up to contams if your jars arent prepared correctly... ie: tinfoil on tops

2 - 51 gallon sterilite containers 1 fully submersible aqaurium heater 200 watts
water... 3 inches deep in bottom resevoir
drop top tank in.... make sure it rests on top of some jars or something in the bottom of the resevoir...
2 humidity gauges in incubator 2 temperature gauges in incubator
Cost me a grand total of 36 bux to make and hold approx 40 jars if not more
my favorite aspect of the setup is my keyboard stand.... Now my 2000.00 keyboard sits in a closet while my 36 buck incubator lives in luxury off the floor!!!!
this setup works for both fruiting and incubating so needless to say I have many of these incubators set up..... to use as a fruting chamber its simple... just birth or throw yer casing in the chamber,, all ya need is a airstone and pump for humidity and air exchange... fan a few times a day...... as for light a shop lite hung ovber the tanks should do fine....
I havent fruited yet but the way this thing holds humidity, and temp I wont be surprised if everything goes very well. The lid is practically air tight... 2 curved lips over lap each other when ya place the lid on.... I think im gonna get some car/weather sealent or that foam car sealent they use on yer windows/doors for a car and make it seal even better... So far though my tests this thing show that it holds the environment stable.
I have 5 of these setups....
sorry if it sounds like I dont know english.... just brain farting

I've seen people have foil over the jars (after innoc.) before. In the mmgg it doesn't say to put them back on.. whats going on here? How does this help?

In reply to:

I tape the holes during sterilization and cover with foil. Then, I innoculate through the tape and then simply place the tin foil over the holes. It gives enough air exchange and in ideal temperatures I see good colonization in 3 days.

Tin foil keeps the contams out
im thinking of staring to tape and tinfoil since I flip, some type of micropore tape
