BOTTLE CUTTER
    #6407244 - 12/29/06 07:13 AM (14 years, 4 months ago)

Had to make a run to the hobby shop.
While there, I saw one of :THESE:

Not exactly inexpensive.
But, if you have a LOT of autoclave bags.
Without a filter patch.

This gizmo would turn glass mason jars, into bag necks.
That you could use metal or plastic lids on.

All sorts of uses there, actually. Good find.

How would you suggest you break the jars?

Say an inch from the top then drape the bag over the lip of the glass then add the lid?

Makes sense to me, this would allow your bags a 2-3 time use with no in pulse sealer.... right?

Yup, about an inch below the jars shoulder.

You would pull the bag through the bottle neck.
Then, smooth the bag edges out & downward.
Over the bottle neck shoulder..
Then, screw the lid on the bottle neck.
Right over the bag material.

That is what i had envisioned but I have problems putting that into words some times.

How many times you think a bag would last by doing this? I think you would be more concerned with the myc eating through the bag then the PC process.... IMOP

Myc doesn't eat through bags.
So long as the edges of a bottle neck are smooth.
I would think you could re-use a bag multiple times.

I wasn't sure since I have never used a bag more then once.

Seems like an effective long term idea for making bulk spawn / subs

Thanks as always

i remember a similar tool to this, from when i was a lad.
i tried to find them recently, via google, with a view to cutting the bottom half inch or so off jars for use as petri dishes.
does seem a little expensive though
