How big of a tub to use for 3 quarts of spawn in straw
    #6405402 - 12/28/06 03:04 PM (17 years, 2 months ago)

Hi, considering a depth of 6 inches is desired how big should(in area) should the tub be if 3 jars were to be used as spawn?

Should there be 3 layers of spawn(a layer with each jar) or should it be spread out with more layers?

well if your going to spawn it to Hpoo/ or coir., just mix two qts in with the hpoo or coir then make level and then apply the 3rd at ontop as a frosting layer.. make sure its all level though...

18 gallon (82 liter) tub will work great for a 5"-6" substrate depth.
They're all I use, and readily available. Wal-mart has them (grey Sterilite tubs) for less than $4 USD per tub with lid. 2 quarts of spawn to about a 1:4 spawn/poo ratio gives me about a 4'-4.5" substrate depth.

What they said... And also
http://www.unitcalc.com/calc_vap.php

But you probably dont want to make it any more than a 1:4 ratio of spawn to substrate so I would go with premedmans advice or add another quart of spawn
