I beleive this is my second thread here. Welp, this peice of work in FINALY done. I don't obsessive draw in downtime, i find that drawing when you're bored is a worthless experience. It cant grab an emotion, hold it tight, and not want to let it go. Anyways, good or bad comments lemme know, its all good. Ill upload the finished version later. I don't have a name for this peice, but its sorta a vision of myself..I have a tendancy for taking permanent pictures in my head. Welp here ya go

it's not done. any artist will tell you that no art piece is ever finished.

What are you talking about? If he thinks its done, its done. And no, not all artists are the same. Some can feel a piece of work is done 100%.. others can't.
As for the poster, nice picture. You should try drawing with pen and maybe add some light source to help bring it alive a bit more.

i still stand by what i said.
any true artist at heart, will always always, until the end of time, look at their piece and see that there could be something added or subtracted from their piece.

there's a big difference, i think, in finishing an art peice, and accepting that there are other possibilities in how it could/should have turned out.
i don't see the difference between somebody constantly changing a work of art such as a painting, and someone else changing a book that they wrote.

yeah, i mean, an artist eventually has to come to grips with a piece in order to sell/present/whatever it. But, they will always look at their work as somewhat unfinished, however minor the change may be.
i don't see any difference in the example you gave either. same with music.

wouldn't it annoy you for a book to be constantly changed, as the author didn't consider it "finished"?

It's a cool pic, reminds me a lot of the type of things I like to draw. I guess a lot of people are being inspired by Alex Grey. That bud looks really leafy though, more like catnip... At least if it's supposed to be a bud. Maybe next time some hairs?

Actually I think that would be a pretty cool book, like you could read it and then a year or two read it again and it would be different enough to be exciting to read again. Special writer's cut editions or something.

you're missing the point. yes, i agree that would be annoying, also, it COULD be cool if a book was changed every now and then; perhaps that was that books "thing" that made it interesting, its artistic approach.
what you are missing is, i am agreeing that artists eventually have to let a work be, let it be finished, so that they may present it or sell it, or do whatever with it. otherwise, how will that artist ever get on with their other work/life/whatever? BUT, even after they have had to come to grips with being done, they will always see something in their work that can be altered.

Honestly, im not inspired much by alex g. with his selling out to a number of band names, and book titles. I've always just drawn lines as a younger kid, and now i just tend to make things very complex and detailed. Shading.. eeenh, i like my simple pencil lines =).

thats probably one of the dumbest things ive ever heard how can you sit there and pretend to know how every artist thinks and who are you to judge who are 'true' artists or not?
to TheDemon thats a pretty good drawing better than i can do

because every artist obsesses about their work. once they start, they can't seperate themselves from it. it's their livelihood.

I'm an artist and I finish paintings all the time. I bang those bitches out one after the other. A little splotch of color here, a squiggly line there, BAM!! you've got a painting. Now buy it.

don't mean to hijack, I am going to start my own thread, since I just recently got these crappy pictures uploaded.

Well shit, bud. Those are terrific.

those are brilliant.
but deep down you know there are bits and parts of each and every one of those that you see "mistakes" in. but art IS subjective so...
