Need Verm. Will Travel.
    #6395515 - 12/21/06 10:33 PM (17 years, 2 months ago)

I think I just used the last 4 1/2 cups of vermiculite in this state.
So what to funking do?
Well first, I guess, I should make some tried-and-true classic PF-Tek cakes.
RYF is Rye Flour before you potheads ask .
There is 1 tbls. of gypsum per cup of coir in each mix, and no other additives.

1/2 pint BRF/VERM (multi spore)
1/2 pint, 1/4 pint BRF/RYF/VERM (multi spore)
1/2 pint, 1/4 pint RYF/VERM (multi spore)

Now the fun starts. (if getting your hopes up is fun)

1/2 pint, 1/4 pint COIR/VERM/BRF 4:1 (multi spore)
1/2 pint, 1/4 pint COIR/VERM/RYF 4:1 (multi spore)

MY logic here is that if the contamination risk is higher due to the heavy coir content the already germinated mycelium may be a better bet. So..

1/2 pint COIR/VERM ~5:1 (liquid culture)
1/2 pint COIR/VERM ~5:1 (liquid culture)
1/2 pint COIR (liquid culture)

The jars were steamed for about one and a half hours this morning around eight-ish, and left to cool for 13 hours then were inoculated as indicated above. Needle flaming and alcohol wiping and such were used after every jar to ensure sterility at this point. Sterility of spore print to syringe procedure questionable. Sterility, and viability of liquid culture also questionable.

And now the waiting..

Good luck, you need to get a PC so you never have to worry about looking for verm again..I don't know who posted this the other day but I book marked it for just this sort of situation http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=2625289 sure its no AA but it is big enough to get something done

Hell yeah.
I know that presto is pretty much the best-of-the-worst.
But thats not a bad price at all compared to the ones I saw at Khols the other day. They want 56 bucks for a 8 (EIGHT!) qt. stainless steel PC. Like, forty something for the eight quart aluminum one.

I guess I need to start looking at wally world more often.

Well.. I wanna get AA off ebay too, but I'm sure I could use two eventually.

Thanks for the link.

Hell,I have an AA and I was thinking about getting one of those cheepos just so I don't have to fill the AA a bunch of times in a row,It only holds 10 jars, when you make like a ton at a time it takes all day.Bringing up to pressure, cooking for over and hr,waiting to depressurize, and over and over again sometimes that thing is running for a whole day nonstop

Yeah I think I'll get that 23 quart at wal-mart. Thats all I really need for now, and at least it'll be brand new.
And hell, I wouldn't really mind PCing all day anyway.

Hopefully I don't run into the same problem with rye berries that I'm having with verm. There is a feed store outside of town so that should be good.

Just like every year!

My klepto buddy also seems to make a lot of money this time of year. So things should be gettin good around the new year. OH, and tax returns are coming.

I just cant wait to get a place so I can work without questions, and time restraints.

BTW: Will mushrooms cure the Myco-Bug or just make it worse?
I told my mom I was thinking about registering for classes in Micro Biology.

Could you explain what you mean by that comment? I'll be starting my first grow soon and I'd rather not have to find and use vermiculite in my casings if it's not necessary. I do have a PC...

Yes,if you have a PC you can break the curse that is pf tek and just do grains, grains need no verm whatsoever, some people still enjoy torturing themselves looking for verm to make use of it in a casing mix but the fine folks over at miracle grow have solved this problem for you as well
