Cake speed
    #639496 - 05/21/02 04:24 PM (21 years, 4 months ago)

I am going to a music festival in a month and would like to have some 'edibles' to take if possible. I have inoculated six jars, with a little added solution, in hopes of speeding the process. Two are to fruit cakes, and four are for a casing. (if none are lost to contams.) I know that you can put the colonizing jars in an incubator, to speed the process. The extra solution has been applied to try and cover that factor. I am just looking for any little tip or trick from a weathered grower or two. Any advice from the pro's would be appreciated... Much thanks in advance.

Erm, hate to be the one to break it to you, but unfortunately you can't rush through this and expect to get any good results. Wait, that's the key, sterility is a major factor, but the only real technique is patience. Incubating is as fast as it's going to get. Even if you use spawn, you have to wait for your casing to colonize, and then fruit/pin which in all likliness isn't going to happen in a month. If you want to rush through it, look for information on spawning, it could produce some amount of fruit bodies in a month, but that's just an uneducated guess.

Minimum time from innoculation to harvest is 4 weeks and thats pushing it. More like 5-6 weeks. What is this "solution" you're talking about. Just keep them in the dark and in the mid 80's for temp. Thats all you can do. DO NOT take them out before they are fully colonized. Its best to wait at least 3 days after they are colonized before you birth. And thats if youre in a hurry.
